IPL 2017 Auction: 351 players to go under the hammer

The tenth edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) is all set to officially get with the IPL 2017 Auction on February 21 in Bengaluru. IPL today released the complete list of players who have listed themselves for the auction. A total of 351 players will go under the hammer with eight franchises in fray to sign them. Out of those 351 players, 122 are international players and this time a lot of English players have made themselves available for the tournament.

There are six players from Associate nations. Afghanistan has five of their players up for auction including their captain Asghar Stanikzai. The other four are Mohammad Nabi, Mohammad Shahzad, Dawlad Zadran and Rashid Khan. The only UAE player is Chirag Suri. Mohammad Shahzad and Rashid Khan have listed themselves with a base price of INR 50 lakh.

There was a total of almost eight hundred players, 799 to be specific, that were going to go under the hammer. But according to the franchise’s wish lists, the pool has been reduced to a mere 351 players. A total of whooping 639 uncapped players had listed themselves for the auction, but that has been brought down to 229.

The list of 799 had 24 capped India players and the list of 351 contains everyone but Sudeep Tyagi. Tyagi played a total of four ODI’s for India and has featured for Chennai Super Kings in the past.

There are a lot of players who have based themselves at the highest base price possible. There are seven players based at INR 2 crore and has only one Indian in it. Pacer Ishant Sharma being the one and the other six are Angelo Mathews of Sri Lanka, Pat Cummins and the veteran Mitchell Johnson of Australia, Ben Stokes, Chris Woakes and Eoin Morgan from England.

All these players are hotshots and all the eight franchises will want to contest for them. There are other English stars who will have their share of traction in the auction: Alex Hales, Jason Roy, and Jonny Bairstow will be hot picks as well. While Jonny has priced himself at INR 1.5 crores the opening duo has based themselves at INR 1 crore each.
