The 10th edition of the Indian Premier League started off with a bang and before we even realized, it&#8217;s already a week old. Since the time of player auctions, it had created a buzz and after a flurry of Test cricket, T20s were the order of the day. IPL has been a great platform for the youngsters over the years to prove their mettle. The tagline on the trophy of the prestigious tournament also says &#8216;Where Talent Meets Opportunity&#8217;. There have been numerous players not only from India but also overseas who went on to play for their national sides after doing well in IPL. This season has been no different but interestingly, the Indian players who have done well are either considered future superstars or have been knocking the doors of Indian national team for quite some time.

The 22-year-old Sanju Samson smashed a brilliant century, the first of the season while playing for Delhi Daredevils against Supergiant. He scored 102 runs off just 63 balls that gave his team the first win of the season. Nitish Rana has played a couple of good innings for Mumbai Indians and has emerged as the surprise player of the season. Kedar Jadhav played a superb innings of 69 off 37 balls for Royal Challengers against Daredevils. Although he is not as young as Samson or Rana, still the Indian cricket is yet to see the best of him.

Rishabh Pant played a marvelous knock of 57 for Daredevils against Royal Challengers and almost pulled off a stunning victory. Manish Pandey was the other who scored an emphatic 81 off 47 for Knight Riders against Mumbai. Where the big guns of Indian cricket like Rohit Sharma have been kept quiet, it&#8217;s the second line of defense that has stood up which comes as a great news for India.

They have played pivotal roles for the teams and have taken central stages on a number of occasions. But this hasn&#8217;t been the season of the Caribbean players as most of them have failed to contribute. Chris Gayle, Kieron Pollard, Sunil Narine and Carlos Brathwaite are the notable mentions who haven&#8217;t had a good run so far.

For Royal Challengers Bangalore, Gayle has been a premier batsman at the top for a number of years but he managed scores of 32 and 6 only in two games and as a result, was dropped from the side in the third one. Pollard for Mumbai Indians has paltry scores of 27 and 17 for Mumbai Indians and gave away 30 runs in 1.5 overs he has bowled, clearly not the best of the big man.

KL Rahul, Quinton de Kock, JP Duminy, Ravichandran Ashwin, Mitchell Marsh and Murali Vijay were amongst who were set to miss the whole season. Where the big guns of Indian cricket like Rohit Sharma have been kept quiet, it&#8217;s the second line of defense that has stood up which comes as a great news for India.

<h3>The Caribbeans flopped</h3>

Since the inception of the IPL, there has been a huge influence of the players from West Indies on almost every team. They have played pivotal roles for the teams and have taken central stages on a number of occasions. But this hasn&#8217;t been the season of the Caribbean players as most of them have failed to contribute. Chris Gayle, Kieron Pollard, Sunil Narine and Carlos Brathwaite are the notable mentions who haven&#8217;t had a good run so far.
For Royal Challengers Bangalore, Gayle has been a premier batsman at the top for a number of years but he managed scores of 32 and 6 only in two games and as a result, was dropped from the side in the third one. Pollard for Mumbai Indians has paltry scores of 27 and 17 for Mumbai Indians and gave away 30 runs in 1.5 overs he has bowled, clearly not the best of the big man.
Narine, who has been the go-to bowler for Kolkata Knight Riders has managed to pick up only one wicket so far in 2 matches. Although he has an economy rate of under 7, yet the wickets column is nowhere close to where it used to be. The &#8216;Remember the name&#8217; man Brathwaite hasn&#8217;t done anything worth remembering so far. For Delhi Daredevils, he scored just 1 run off 5 balls against Royal Challengers and gave away 29 runs in 2 overs with the ball.

<h3>Injury list keeps increasing</h3>

Even before the start of the season, there were a number of players who had succumbed to injuries and were unable to participate in the tournament. Some of them missed out on a few games while others were ruled out the whole league. KL Rahul, Quinton de Kock, JP Duminy, Ravichandran Ashwin, Mitchell Marsh and Murali Vijay were amongst who were set to miss the whole season. While Virat Kohli, Ravindra Jadeja, AB de Villiers, Mustafizur Rahman and Umesh Yadav were amongst the players who were going to miss the initial few games.
The list did not stop there and there were additions to it during the tournament as well. Ambati Rayudu for Mumbai Indians suffered a grade 1 groin tear while fielding in the second match of the season against the Supergiant. He was taken off on a stretcher and the injury was bad enough to keep him out of action for at least a week and there is still no certainty on when he would return.
Chris Lynn was the latest casualty when he fell awkwardly on his left shoulder while attempting to take a catch on the boundary against Mumbai Indians. It was the third occasion that the Australian hurt his shoulder in the last couple of years. He had gone for an MRI scan and the speculations are that he might miss the entire remaining season.
