The Mukesh Ambani-owned Mumbai Indians has been one of the most consistent teams in the IPL over the past 9 seasons and has bagged the coveted IPL title twice in all these years. Chennai Super Kings and Kolkata Knight Riders are the other two teams with two title wins. The franchise was captained by the “Master Blaster” Sachin Tendulkar in the initial years before handing over the reign to Rohit Sharma. It was under the captaincy of Rohit that Mumbai won two IPL titles in 2013 and 2015.
Mumbai boasts of some of the best players in the tournament and retained as many as 20 players for the 10th edition of the extravaganza. Guys like Lasith Malinga, Kieron Pollard, Ambati Rayudu and Harbhajan Singh who has been part of the Mumbai Indians set up for a number of seasons were retained. In the 2017 edition, they bought leg-spinner Karn Sharma for a whopping Rs. 3.2 which was their most expensive signing of the year.
They brought back Mitchell Johnson as well as domestic sensation K Gowtham who were purchased for Rs. 2 crores each. The two-time champions kick off their campaign with the Maharashtra derby against the Rising Pune Supergiants on 6th April followed by their first home game against the Kolkata Knight Riders on 9th April at the Wankhede. The playoffs will commence from 16th May with the final being played on 21st May.
