Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) again got their IPL campaign on track with a resounding victory against the Kings XI Punjab on Thursday which will keep them in good stead ahead of the exciting clash against defending champions Sunrisers Hyderabad. On the other hand, the visiting Sunrisers will look to get back to winning ways but it won’t be an easy task for them especially in front of the jam-packed Eden Gardens crowd cheering for Kolkata Knight Riders.

Kolkata began their campaign with a 10 wicket victory over the Gujarat Lions which saw the rise of Big Bash hero Chris Lynn go hammers and tongs. He literally deposited the listless Gujarat bowlers to different corners of the ground and made hitting look ridiculously easy. His unbeaten 93 came in a mere 41 deliveries which included 6 fours and 8 gigantic sixes. But his injury in the next match has meant he will miss the next few games but is still expected to play a role for them as the tournament progresses.

Captain Gautam Gambhir has also looked in ominous touch and has taken on the opposition bowlers mercilessly. His call to send Sunil Narine to open the batting alongside him was a brave call and it really paid off. The southpaw played a gem of an innings but it remains to be seen whether it’s a permanent solution of not.

On the other hand, defending Champions Sunrisers Hyderabad began their campaign with consecutive victories but got a reality check in their 3rd encounter against the Mumbai Indians which they lost by 4 wickets. The problem of many has haunted Hyderabad as they are in a dilemma to whether include Moises Henriques or Ben Cutting who possess the similar sort of abilities.

Cutting can hit the lusty blows on a more consistent basis than Henriques which might just work in his favour. Kolkata has a clear advantage over Hyderabad in the head to head record with KKR winning 6 out of the 9 matches being played between these two sides. Especially at Eden Gardens, Hyderabad has lost all the 4 matches so the scales will be heavily tilted in favour of Kolkata. So with less than 3 hours to go for the first match of the Super Saturday to commence, here we have a look at the result predictions for this match.

Here is what Crictracker predicts for the game:

Scenario 1: KKR will win the toss

Toss Prediction: KKR choose to bowl

First innings prediction: 160-165

2nd innings Prediction: KKR will win by 6 wickets (with 2 overs to spare)

Scenario 2: SRH will win the toss

In Kolkata: Matches – 4, KKR Won – 4, SRH Won – 0

While KKR will look to keep their unbeaten record against the Sunrisers Hyderabad in Kolkata intact, the visiting team will look to get back to winning ways after losing their previous encounter against the Mumbai Indians. It will be a mouth-watering contest on our hands and for further updates on IPL keep following CricTracker.

Playing Combinations

Kolkata Knight Riders

The hosts wouldn’t like to change their winning combination but Shakib Al Hasan might be one possible replacement for Colin de Grandhomme. Sunil Narine is expected to open the innings with Gambhir as the duo got KKR off to a flying start in the previous match. The move to open with him worked wonders as the southpaw stroked his way to an 18 balls 37 which included 3 fours and 3 sixes.

The middle order also looks settled with Manish Pandey looking in good form. He scored an exceptional 81 of 47 deliveries in a losing cause against the Mumbai Indians but from his strokeplay, it was evident that he was striking the ball pretty well. The return of Umesh Yadav has also bolstered their bowling line-up and it will be difficult for Hyderabad to counter the duo of Umesh and Trent Boult. The right arm pacer finished with impressive figures of 4/33 in the previous encounter.

Predicted XI: Gautam Gambhir ©, Sunil Narine, Robin Uthappa (wk), Manish Pandey, Suryakumar Yadav, Yusuf Pathan, Shakib Al Hasan, Chris Woakes, Piyush Chawla, Umesh Yadav, Trent Boult

Sunrisers Hyderabad

Despite a horrendous outing for Mustafizur Rahman in the previous encounter where the left-arm seamer conceded 34 runs in 2 overs, he is expected to retain his place in the XI given his reputation in the limited overs format. He can execute the cutters to perfection and his performance the other day was more of an aberration.

If Hyderabad does sticks with Mustafizur, then Cutting might make way for Henriques but the SRH camp will be in a big dilemma on this regard. On their day both are match winners and can lend the ideal balance to the side but they have to take a call. The rest of the team will remain the same.

Predicted XI: David Warner ©, Shikhar Dhawan, Moises Henriques, Yuvraj Singh, Deepak Hooda, Naman Ojha (wk), Vijay Shankar, Bipul Sharma, Rashid Khan, Ashish Nehra, Mustafizur Rahman

The odds are heavily tilted in favour of the Kolkata Knight Riders. Hyderabad is yet to beat them at the Eden Gardens but with some quality players in their rank, SRH will look to end their losing streak in Kolkata.
