Andre Russell has announced his re-entry into the biggest cricket league in a grandiose way, stroking a few sensational knocks already. He justified Kolkata Knight Riders’ call to retain him before the auction and is proving to be a match-winner with both bat and ball. After his knock against CSK went in vain, he ensured his exploits ended on the winning side against Delhi Daredevils.

Talking about his re-entry after serving a one-year ban, Russell said he’s enjoying his comeback very much. He also said that he enjoys being on the biggest of stages and when he finds a good batting track like he did in Chennai, he really makes the most of the opportunity. Russell smashed 11 sixes and just one four in that 88-run knock in 36 balls.

“I love the big stage; I am enjoying the moment, this is what cricket is all about. The mindset was to give me a chance, try and get in, take a couple of balls to settle. This is a very good wicket; we need to make sure that there’s no repeat of the Chennai game, need to make sure we are as tight as possible,” Russell said in the mid-innings interview during the KKR-DD game.

It’s tight, but he’s the Universe Boss: Russell on Gayle

The Caribbean superstars have been playing a crucial role in IPL’s growth over the years. But one name that stands above everyone is the Universe Boss, Chris Gayle. Hailed as the King of T20 cricket, Gayle has been an absolute legend for the Royal Challengers Bangalore. Talking about Gayle, Russell reckons he’s a bigger hitter because he’s the Universe Boss.

“It’s tight at the moment (on whether he or Gayle is the bigger hitter), he’s the Universal boss (Gayle), so I give it to him, he has the Midas touch. 200 on the board, any bowler, would like to see so many runs on the board. What happened against CSK is beyond us now, we just had a chat and will try our best not to repeat that,” Russell added.
