The Royal Challengers Bangalore have often been tagged as a batting-heavy lineup in the IPL history. It is perhaps of this very reason that the RCB think tank had their homework done on the bowlers when they turned up for the IPL 2018 auctions. At the auctions, they ensured that they bagged some of the top T20 bowlers on their roster. Now, with the bowlers looking good in their camp, expect RCB to be a top contender for IPL 2018.

At the auctions, the RCB camp roped in the services of Nathan Coulter-Nile, Chris Woakes, Colin de Grandhomme, and Umesh Yadav among the lot. Ironically, this quarter is the very same one that had accounted for their 49 all-out humiliation last year against the Kolkata Knight Riders. In the batting department, the Royal Challengers Bangalore had already retained two heavyweights – AB de Villiers and Virat Kohli. Now, they have the services of Brendon McCullum too.

All the franchises had a purse of INR 80 crore as they headed in to the auctions. The teams were allowed to pick up a maximum of 25 players. This includes a maximum of 8 overseas players.  Interestingly, only four teams could manage to bag 25 players in the auctions. Royal Challengers Bangalore could only manage to get 24 players.

Big buys and the average expenditure

RCB had only INR 0.15 crore of INR 15 lakh after buying out 24 players. The player who fetched the best deal from the RCB camp was English all-rounder Chris Woakes. Woakes was bought for a whopping INR 7.4 crore. RCB camp also shelled out a big amount of INR 6 crore to retain the services of the Indian leg spinner Yuzvendra Chahal. Chahal was retained by the RCB camp via their RTM option.

The team also managed to rope in Washington Sundar for a modest INR 3.2 crore. In the lead up to the auctions, Sundar was tipped to be one of the bigger deals. Pacer Mohammad Siraj and South African wicketkeeper Quinton de Kock also found deals in the RCB team for the 2018 edition of the IPL.

In all, Royal Challengers Bangalore shelled out INR 79.85 crore at the auctions for their 24 players. Hence, their average expenditure on each turned out to be INR 3,327,000 or INR 3.327 crore.
