Mitchell McClenaghan was one of the key performers for the Mumbai Indians in the previous edition of the tournament. With their premier pacer Lasith Malinga, who went unsold at the auctions this year, not firing with the new ball, the Kiwi pacer had taken the role of the bowling spearhead for the Mumbai Indians. Much to his disappointment though, he found no takers at the IPL auctions this year.

Mitchell McClenaghan would have expected to get some bid for the IPL 2018. But when his name popped out on the big screen at the IPL 2018 auctions, there was an awkward silence that followed in. He went unsold and is now likely to sit out of the action for IPL 2018. Unless there is a last moment injury to some pacer and some franchise decides to bring in a replacement and thus pick him, there seems to be no IPL action for Kiwi.

McClenaghan joined the list of fellow New Zealanders – Ish Sodhi and Martin Guptill –  in the list of unsold players at the auctions this year. Despite not being picked up or retained by team Mumbai, there is no love lost from Mitch’s end for the team. He took to micro blogging site Twitter to express his gratitude to the Mumbai Indians. He thanked the Mumbai team and their skipper Rohit Sharma for the lovely time he had at the IPL.

He also noted that he enjoyed every bit of being a part of the IPL roster and further wished the Mumbai Indians all the luck for the tournament this year. McClenaghan had joined the Mumbai Indians team in the year 2015. He featured in 3 editions of the IPL for Men in Blue. He played 20 matches and scalped 54 wickets with a best of 4/21. He was a part of the victorious Mumbai Indians camp last year.

Here is what Mitchell McClenaghan tweeted:

“Just a quick thanks to @mipaltan and @ImRo45 for the last 3 years. Was a great experience and enjoyed every moment. All the best this year and will watch on with interest,” tweeted Mitchell McClenaghan.
