The <a href="https://www.crictracker.com/category/t20/ipl-indian-premier-league/" target="_blank" rel="noopener"><strong>Indian Premier League</strong></a> (IPL) has been the land of opportunities ever since it&#8217;s inception with the inaugural season in 2008 and there hasn&#8217;t been any better forum to showcase your cricketing talent as the league grabs all the eyeballs given the popularity it has grossed in all the years so far. The <a href="https://www.crictracker.com/cricket-teams/india/" target="_blank" rel="noopener"><strong>Indian</strong></a> T-20 domestic league, the first ever of this kind has given players from all around the world an opportunity to embrace tough situations and those who have fared well given the challenges that the game poses in such a cricket driven country, have managed to play long enough for their respective countries.

Despite of the glamour and the money that the league features, it has lived up to its reputation of providing fans entertainment on the back of some pure cricketing action. On numerous occasions, we have witnessed some great all-round effort the players be it in terms of tremendous batting, bowling skills on display or the athleticism shown on the field that certainly sets IPL apart from the rest. In the midst of entertainment that we get from fours and sixes, the tendency to forget some remarkable bowling spells over the years has become more vulnerable. So here&#8217;s a re-visit to some of those game-changing hat-tricks that certainly help us remember that cricket is still a contest between bat and ball.

Mishra has been one of the most successful bowlers in the history of the league. He is the only bowler to record a hat-trick of hat-tricks in the editions played so far. Being among the top wicket-takers in the league&#8217;s history, his leg spin has been his major weapon to deceive batsmen by a fare distance. He recorded his first hat-trick in the inaugural season itself, playing for Delhi Daredevils, Mishra helped his team to victory in their encounter against the Deccan Chargers by 12 runs by bowling the crucial final over. He dismissed Ravi Teja, RP Singh, and P Ojha off his first three deliveries of the final over, preventing the Chargers to score 15 to win the game.

Mishra just didn&#8217;t stop here as he started to develop a habit of taking hat-tricks when he inflicted one in 2011. Playing for the Deccan Chargers this time around, in a game against the Kings XI Punjab he took his second hattrick as he once again spun a web by his variations of leg spin to see the opposition struggling at 102 for five in the 16th over after he dismissed Ryan McLaren, Mandeep Singh, and Ryan Harris off three successive deliveries to see his team cruise towards victory by 82 runs.

Amit Mishra proved his brilliance with the ball once again as he took his third hat-trick of the IPL in 2013, becoming the first bowler to do so. In a game against the Pune Warriors India, Mishra came on to bowl the penultimate over of the game with the opposition requiring 14 off the final two overs. He dismissed Angelo Mathews off his second delivery and took Bhuvaneshwar Kumar, Rahul Sharma, and Ashok Dinda to seal the game for Sunrisers Hyderabad in what was a low scoring match that was successfully defended by the bowling team.

It was quite a day to cherish for the ace Indian all-rounder as he delivered something, he hasn&#8217;t done often. His exploits on the field with the bat and the ball are known to everyone but the bowling skills that enabled him his first hat-trick in the history of IPL was something that amazed the man himself. It was way back in 2009, when IPL was first played on the foreign soil in South Africa, that the Punjab man led from the front and delivered with both bat and the ball but yet failed to take his team over the line.It was in Kingsmead, Durban that Yuvraj dismissed RCB&#8217;s Robin Uthappa and Jacques Kallis on the final balls of the 12th over and later on the first delivery of his next over, he trapped Mark Boucher to complete his maiden IPL hat-trick. The feeling was ecstatic as he even hit a 36-ball fifty to add to the team&#8217;s tally of runs but still couldn&#8217;t propel his team towards victory as the opposition were too good on the given day.

Yuvraj was once again right on the money in of the later matches in the same edition. In a game against to be Champions- Deccan Chargers, Yuvraj did wonders for the team and this time in a winning cause as the Kings XI went on to beat the Deccan Chargers in one of the nail-biting finishes by one run. He took his second hat-trick of the season by dismissing  Herschelle Gibbs in the last ball of his second over and then by picking Andrew Symonds and Venugopal Rao in the 14th over to complete the hat-trick. It was a low scoring game that ended in one of the most dramatic fashions with the Chargers failing to score 134 in their quota of 20 overs.

Lakshmipathy Balaji, in the league&#8217;s inaugural edition, became the first bowler to take a hat-trick in the history of IPL. Playing for his home team, Chennai Super Kings at Chepauk in Chennai, it was a game against the Kings XI Punjab where the local lad was given the responsibility to see the team home with opposition requiring more than twenty runs in the final over. Balaji, as usual, didn&#8217;t disappoint the captain as he was able to defend the runs in the final over to hand the Kings XI from Punjab a defeat by 18 runs.

It was an eventful final over of the innings with Punjab requiring 19 off the final four deliveries, when Balaji turned the game on by dismissing Irfan Pathan, Piyush Chawla and VRV Singh off three consecutive balls to win the match for his side in what was a thrilling contest between bat and ball. This has been his one of the major IPL memories that can be cherished, after all, he was the first to claim a hattrick in the league.

It was the third hat-trick in the league&#8217;s inaugural season and first by an overseas player, that was witnessed in the game between Chennai Super Kings and Kolkata Knight Riders. It was also the second of this kind taken by a CSK bowler after Balaji did in a game against Punjab. It was some consistent bowling shown by the South African stalwart in the entire match as he finished with 4/21 in his quota of four overs. It was a hattrick that went unnoticed given that it took place between two spells.

Ntini dismissed the Kolkata captain on the final ball of his first spell in the fifth over and didn&#8217;t bowl until the Seventeenth over of the KKR innings. When he did in the death overs, he added the wicket of Debabrata Das and David Hussey to his tally on the two consecutive balls in his second spell. It was one of the few split hat-tricks that the game ever witnessed. It was a day to remember for the man himself and CSK fans that are always behind their team in their ups and down.

This has been the story of the IPL that it is certain for the uncertain to happen. Known for his exploits with the bat, Rohit Sharma did something unusual from his abilities and helped himself to inflict a hat-trick in the 2009 edition of IPL in a game against his hometown team, Mumbai Indians. It was his natural ability with the ball to bowl off-spin as he later confesses that enabled him to show off his skills with the ball. He was later adjudged man of the match considering his performance with the ball that propelled the team to victory.

Mumbai Indians were in driver&#8217;s seat as they required only 43 runs in 26 balls with much batting to come when Rohit bowled one of his magicalal spell to spun a web in Mumbai&#8217;s lower middle order. He dismissed Abhishek Nayar and Harbhajan Singh off two consecutive deliveries and later got JP Duminy out on the first ball of the 18th over to complete his hat-trick. He was accurate with his nomuch-knownwn off-spins that made way for the Chargers&#8217; victory.

This was the only hat-trick to be taken in the third edition of the IPL. The honors were done by the RCB&#8217;s new ball bowler, Praveen Kumar who did wonders for his team in the game against Rajasthan Royals. He became the sixth bowler to do so and the fifth Indian to inflict a hat-trick in an IPL match. He was on the money with his death bowling skills as the Royals&#8217; lower middle crumbled to some remarkable and accurate bowling on display.

The score read 82 for 4 when he was asked to bowl the 17th over as he made the matter worse for the team from the west. He took Damien Martyn, Sumit Narwal and Paras Dogra on three consecutive deliveries to eventually bowl the team out for a paltry score of 92 runs. It was appreciable for the bowler who started with a boundary off his first delivery but backed it with some great yorker later in the over. Later, Royal Challengers Bangalore chased the target with ease with the loss of no wicket to seal the match by ten wickets. It was a humiliating defeat for the Royals as the batting didn&#8217;t showed any promise despite of quality players featuring in their ranks.

This was the first hat-trick taken in 2012 edition of IPL when Ajit Chandila became the first uncapped Indian to do so in a IPL game. Chandila, who was booked in charges of match-fixing in the next edition to follow, showed much promise with his ability to spin the ball. He was one of the Indians who bowled in the Powerplay overs. Playing for Rajasthan Royals, he took a hat-trick in a game against Pune Warriors India in the first over of the match.

He dismissed Jesse Ryder and captain Sourav Ganguly in the fifth and sixth ball of the match and then sent back R Uthappa in the first ball of his next over to complete the hat-trick. Rajasthan eventually ended up winning the game by 45 runs as Chandila played an important role in team&#8217;s victory. It was a dream start for the youngster form Haryana but was later found guilty as he was booked for match fixing charges in a game against Kings XI Punjab in the 2013 IPL season along with teammates S Sreesanth and Ankit Chavan that simply ruined his career thereafter.

Sunil Narine became the first bowler to inflict a hat-trick in the 2013 IPL season. He was the find of the season for the Kolkata based franchise as his abilities to bowl in death overs and with the new ball impressed one and all. He was later the go to man for his captain as it was not easy for the opposition to read his variations that certainly made life difficult for the batsmen. He announced his arrival in a fashionable way in the cricket arena by picking first hat-trick for Kolkata Knight Riders. In a game against Kings XI Punjab, he grabbed all the eyeballs by his performance with the ball but wasn&#8217;t enough for his team to get over the line.

Narine got rid of David Hussey, Azhar Mahmood and Gurkeerat Singh in successive balls in the 15th over as the Kings found themselves reeling at the score of 99. It was a treat to watch someone from the Carribean Islands bowl spin and trapping batsmen at will courtesy his variations. The game was eventually won the hosts by a margin of just four runs as the KKR&#8217;s failed miserably to chase the target set by the Kings. From thereon, Narine has become an integral part of the KKR&#8217;s scheme of things and this was even evident when he was retained by them in the recently held player retention event for the forthcoming IPL beginning this April.

This was the first hat-trick in the seventh edition of the league and second in all for the Rajasthan Royals as Pravin Tambe became the ninth bowler to take a hat-trick in the history of IPL. The then 43-year old took a special two ball hat-trick as he dismissed batsmen on two legitimate deliveries and one on an illegal delivery. In a game against the to be Champions- Kolkata Knight  Riders, the veteran leg spinner showed his class as he finished with the figures of 4/26 in his quota of four overs, propelling the team to the victory over the Knights by ten runs.

In his special hat-trick, the first of this kind, he dismissed Manish Pandey stumped off a wide ball and then later got Yusuf Pathan and Ryan Ten Doeschate on the two successive deliveries. In this way, the exploits by Tambe achieved much appreciation in the cricketing world and till date remains to be one the special hat-tricks from the lot. The leg spinner despite of his age, continued to perform for Rajasthan, and to an extent did well in his short spanned career in IPL.

In the seventh edition of the IPL, the lads from Rajasthan accounted to make hat-tricks for more than once as the then skipper Shane Watson, took another hat-trick for the Royals in the same edition after Pravin Tambe. In a game against Sunrisers Hyderabad, the captain lead from the front as he managed to send three Sunrisers&#8217; batsmen off consecutive deliveries back in the pavillion. This was party time for the Royals from Rajasthan as Watson and Rajat Bhatia shared a total of six wickets between them as most of the batsmen from the Hyderabad camp failed to apply themselves.

Watson got Shikhar Dhawan out in the last ball of the fourth over and then sent Moises Henriques and Karn Sharma back to the pavilion in the 17th over. It was a below-par total set by the team from the south as they crumbled to 134 for 9 in their 20 overs. This was a remarkable effort from the bowlers especially from the captain himself on their new home turf for the season Ahmedabad.

The Kings XI Punjab have been one of the few teams in the IPL who have failed to win any of the editions so far. The team came too close in 2014 in scripting one of their most memorable IPL editions but unfortunately, their caravan was halted by a resurgent Kolkata Knight Riders as they failed to cross the final hurdle. They were again struggling in the ninth edition when they found a hope in the form of Axar Patel. Facing the table toppers Gujarat Lions and defending a low score of 154 on a flat deck as Rajkot, Kings found themselves in the spot of bother before Axar came to their rescue as he turned the match on its head by bowling a game-changing spell as he inflicted a split hat-trick, first for Punjab in that year&#8217;s IPL.

Axar Patel bowled the match into Punjab’s favor when he dismissed Dinesh Karthik and DJ Bravo in successive deliveries in the seventh over and then he completed his hat-trick after getting Ravindra Jadeja out in the first ball of the eleventh over. This was a much-needed spell from the lanky spinner as it gave the team a hope of reliability to turn things into their favor. Punjab eventually went on to win the match against a pretty strong looking batting lineup as they restricted them before 154 to gain back some sort of confidence going ahead in the league. This was all possible much due to Axar&#8217;s exploits with the ball that propelled the team to victory.

Playing his first match for his franchise in the tenth edition of IPL, Samuel Badree took his first hat-trick in IPL games. It came on a low and slow Bengaluru against a well-settled Indians&#8217; lineup. This was yet another evidence of why leg-spinners are being so effective in the modern day cricket that enables them to spin the ball on any given surface. Badree was accurate in his lengths from ball one and was in the midst of a brilliant spell when he inflicted the first hat-trick of the season. It was a low scoring game but Badree&#8217;s spell with the ball wasn&#8217;t quite enough for the mighty Mumbai to cease them from victory.

In the second ball of the third over of the innings, Patel wanted to hit Badree’s googly over the extra-cover region, but presented a catch for Chris Gayle.  In the next ball, McClenaghan failed to get hold of a full toss and gave a simple catch to Mandeep Singh at long-on. And then Badree pulled out his googly again and completely foxed Rohit Sharma in the next delivery. Rohit misjudged the ball, let the ball pass through his bat and pad and got out bowled. Despite of such heroics, Bangalore suffered a defeat in their own backyard courtesy some down the order good batting at the display from the elder of the Pandya brothers, Krunal.

It was the second hat-trick of the season, and first for any bowler from the Gujarat Lions squad. This happened in the evening match of the same day when Samuel Badree took a hat-trick in a game against the Mumbai Indians at Bengaluru. This was the debut match for Andrew Tye in the history of IPL and did unveil magic for his side Gujarat Lions as he finished with the match-winning figures of 5/17 which also included a hat-trick in his first-ever IPL encounter. Til his arrival in the side, bowlers from Gujarat literally failed to get going as the weak link was exposed every time even after posting a good total.

The fast bowler dismissed Ankit Sharma in the first delivery of the over. Sharma presented a catch to Brendon McCullum at long-on. In the next ball, Manoj Tiwary misjudged the slower delivery and looped a catch to Ishan Kishan in the square-leg region.In the third consecutive ball, Tye delivered a yorker and bowled out Shardul Thakur.  Tye has shown glimpses of his ability with the ball to bowl yorkers at will which makes him a threatening death over specialist. His execution with the slower ball has impressed one and all, helping him to acquire a whopping bid of 7.2 crores (INR) in the recently held IPL auction for its upcoming season.

Unadkat, he was the real find of the tenth season of IPL in terms of his ability to bowl slower deliveries be it bouncer or a length delivery. He has been someone very consistent and has been really successful in earthing the real talent in him. Jaydev, much due to his performance in the last edition of the T-20 league earned a spot back into the Indian team for the shortest version of the game. He was among the leading wicket-takers in IPL-10 that even featured a valuable hat-trick in a game against Sunrisers Hyderabad. Unadkat pulled off a stunning win for the Rising Pune Supergiants in the match against Hyderabad. He needed to defend 13 runs off the last over and to everyone&#8217;s surprise he didn’t concede a single run.

The fast bowler first dismissed Bipul Sharma in the second ball of the over. Bipul went for a big shot and was out caught for 8 runs. Rashid Khan miss-hit the next delivery and was caught and bowled by the bowler himself. And in the next ball, Bhuvneshwar Kumar presented a catch to Manoj Tiwary in the cover region. He ended the match with a fifer that propelled the team to victory. He was, to a large extent the  engine behind the Pune&#8217; s inspirational run to the finals where they eventually lost to the Mumbai Indians who were crowned champions for the third time, the most by any franchise in the history of the league.
