Chennai Super Kings (CSK) began their season with a bang with a victory over Mumbai Indians (MI) in the opening game of the Indian Premier League (IPL). But they were dealt with a severe blow after the finisher of that game Kedar Jadhav was ruled out of the tournament due to a grade 2 hamstring injury. They were already a player short following the knee injury to Mitchell Santner before the tournament. However, they have approached yet another England pacer as Jadhav’s replacement for the remainder of the season.
Jadhav was one of the heroes for Chennai in the first game as he had come back to bat in the last over after Dwayne Bravo had brought them ever so close in the chase. He had gone off in the middle of the innings as it as tough for him to run between the wickets. However, he came back to play the famous ramp shot which eventually won them the game against the team which had made the Wankhede their fortress.
Who is the player?
According to Cricbuzz, CSK franchise are looking forward to having David Willey on board as the replacement for Jadhav. The left-arm fast bowler lodged all the paperwork with IPL on Sunday evening itself according to reports. Willey looks a decent replacement as they needed an extra bowler to strengthen themselves after conceding runs in the opening game.
Willey will be playing in the Indian T20 extravaganza for the first time in his career and is a proven T20 performer with the experience of 147 matches with him in the format. He has picked 143 wickets at a strike rate of 16.7 and is also useful with the bat most of the times. He has scored 2097 runs at an amazing strike rate of 142.55 and also has a couple of hundreds to his name along with 7 half-centuries.
