Dwayne ‘DJ’ Bravo lived up to the title of his song ‘Champion’ with his spectacular knock of 68 off only 30 against Mumbai Indians in the first match of IPL 2018. Chasing a target of 165, things were not looking good for the Chennai Super Kings after the quick wickets of Rayadu, Raina and the captain MS Dhoni. This is when Dwayne Bravo stepped up his game and the ball started to fly into the crowd frequently.
In the 18th and 19th overs of McLenaghan and Bumrah, Bravo managed to scalp 20 runs from each, making the overs quite expensive for the Mumbai Indians and keeping the hope alive for CSK fans. However, at the end of Bumrah’s over, he was caught off a short ball at extra cover by captain Rohit Sharma with 7 runs needed from the last over. But the damage was mostly done. It was Kedar Jadhav who came back in spite of being injured and finished the game with one ball to remain.
Later he took to Twitter to congratulate the team for its brilliant comeback to the IPL and laud Bravo’s innings. His tweet read: “What a match a Wankhede.. Wonderful effort by the boys! Classy hitting by @DJBravo47 brought us back in the game & I feel proud to have finished it off in the last over! Still feels like a dream! CSK is well & truly back! #CSKisBack #WhistlePodu #IPL2018 @ChennaiIPL @IPL @BCCI”

He did the same earlier in the post-match interview also, where he said he was “happy psychologically, but physically hurt”. He also explained how the last overplayed itself out in his mind. “I knew that the bowler would come under pressure. I was waiting for my chance, knew that the bad ball would come, wanted to see how my body was reacting.”
After hurting his hamstrings earlier in the innings, he could not take singles for the first three balls off Mustafizur’s last over. But he soon fixed it with a six in the 4th delivery over the short fine leg, and then a boundary to take the match home.
It was a great turn of events for the huge fan following of Chennai Super Kings, which clearly reflected in the replies to Jadav’s tweet. Here are some of them:
