Delhi Daredevils have announced the replacement of Kagiso Rabada for this season of the Indian Premier League (IPL). It was a severe blow for the franchise after the South African fast bowler was ruled out of the tournament due to the lower back stress reaction. He sustained an injury in the recently concluded Test series against Australia where Rabada was awarded the Man of the Series. However, Daredevils have roped in the services of Liam Plunkett as his replacement for this season.

Though the ruling out of Rabada was a big jolt to their ambitions in this IPL, Delhi Daredevils have got an able replacement in Plunkett. The England fast bowler is known to hit the deck hard and has rejuvenated his career over the last couple of years. He has been the vital cog of his national side in the limited overs side and would be looking to play a crucial role in his debut season in IPL this year.

Plunkett’s T20 record

Delhi Daredevils had bagged Kagiso Rabada in the auction earlier this year by using the Right to Match card for a whopping amount of Rs 4.2 Crores. Liam Plunkett has recently established himself in the limited overs setup for England and would love to make an immediate impact for his new franchise in the tournament. It is not clear until when he will arrive in India but he won’t play the first encounter of the team on Sunday for sure.

Plunkett has played 119 matches in the shortest format of the game so far and has picked 110 wickets at an impressive average of 26.70. He also has a five-wicket haul to his name in the format which is like a dream for any bowler. Moreover, he is no mug with the bat and has scored 697 runs at a strike rate of 132 which could make him an automatic pick in the playing XI for Daredevils.
