Delhi Daredevils (DD) have had a horrendous beginning to their campaign of the 2018 Indian Premier League (IPL). They were defeated black and blue by the Kings XI Punjab at the PCA Stadium in Mohali. KL Rahul picked the bones out of their bowling attack by notching the fastest-ever half-century, which turned out to be too hot to handle for Gautam Gambhir’s men.

Yesterday, they were brushed aside by the Rajasthan Royals by 10 runs (D/L Method) in a game which was marred by the rain to a significant extent. They started in an impressive manner with a couple of quick wickets of Ben Stokes and D’Arcy Short, courtesy some tremendous pieces of agility in the outfield. However, Ajinkya Rahane and Sanju Samson stitched together a decent partnership.

Shahbaz Nadeem, who was drafted in for Amit Mishra, picked them up in quick succession, which brought the visitors into contention for a comeback. Jos Buttler took charge thereafter and churned out some innovative strokes out of his sleeves. However, fast bowler Mohammed Shami cleaned him up with a full-pitched delivery.

The rain took over thereafter and played hide and seek for quite a while before eventually stopping, minutes before the cut-off time. The target was revised to 71 runs off 6 overs for the Daredevils to trace down. However, they strained during their innings and fell way short of their target. Gautam Gambhir demoted himself as Glenn Maxwell and Colin Munro commenced proceedings for them.

To their agony, they were pegged back by the Royals’ bowlers, which pushed them behind the 8-ball. The likes of Rishabh Pant, Glenn Maxwell and Chris Morris tried their hearts out, but all in vain. Meanwhile, there have been some great pieces of humour by the Daredevils and they posted some hilarious pictures on Twitter surrounding the game.
