IPL 2018: Emotional Markande thanks Mumbai Indians franchise for the opportunity

The Mumbai Indians has always managed to unearth young talent every year and this time it is Mayank Markande. The latter turned into an overnight sensation with an outstanding performance. In a game featuring three world-class spinners, it was this 20-year old leggie who grabbed all the spotlight. Playing in the season opener, that too against the mighty Chennai Super Kings, the youngster picked three wickets including the big wicket of MSD.

Markande’s googlies sent back set batsman Ambati Rayudu and Mahendra Singh Dhoni which turned things around for the home team. Very few thought about him until the point that he came into the assault and stole all the spotlight with his spin bowling against one of the toughest teams in the IPL.  The leggie was so unknown to the point that even his own captain Rohit Sharma at the toss had said that he has heard extraordinary things about him and needed to observe.

Emotional Markande thanks Mumbai Indians:

After realizing his dream of playing in the Indian Premier League, the youngster took to Twitter to thank the Mumbai Indians franchise for trusting him. Mayank was picked ahead of Rahul Chahar who also has been doing quite well in the domestic circuit.  He was also confident of coming back better in the next game. The Mumbai Indians lost to Chennai Super Kings in a thriller of a match with Dwayne Bravo‘s epic display with the bat.

“I was 10 years old when IPL began a decade ago. From the dream of playing in the tournament to making a dream debut, I have cherished every moment of my journey. Thank you, Mumbai Indians for giving me the opportunity. Gutted with the result but we can turn it around, ” he said in his tweet.

Never thought I’d  be picked in the auction – Markande:

Uncontested in the auction, Mumbai Indians made a significant unassuming purchase, similar to the way they do to top off the squads in the last hours of the procedure. The Mumbai Indians franchise got the 20-year old Punjab spinner at his base price, 20 Lakhs. Mayank Markande impressed the franchise staff at the MI selection trails with his bowling. However, the leg-spinner wasn’t expecting a call from the side.

“I had performed well at the Mumbai Indians trials, but I never thought I would be picked at the auction. As a matter of fact, I was mentally prepared to work hard for another couple of years and do well in domestic cricket,” he said ahead of the season opener in Mumbai.
