The 2018 edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) came to a fitting end with the most consistent side in the competition, the Chennai Super Kings, lifting the trophy. Under the leadership of MS Dhoni, the Men in Yellow lifted the trophy for the third time in the history of the tournament. They beat the Sunrisers Hyderabad in the finals of the tournament to seal the ultimate glory.

The 2018 season of the IPL was not short on any entertainment dose. The fans got to see a lot of thrilling contests. The season broke all previous records in terms of viewership. Also, the 2018 season topped the social media charts in the history of the competition. And now, the reports suggest that the finals of the IPL 2018 broke all viewership records. The match recorded a viewership growth of almost 34 percent.

This had close to 52.9 million average impressions on the broadcaster Star TV Network. This made the sensational finale game as the highest ever reached game in the history of the IPL with 211 million views. The match was broadcast on 11 live feeds and in as many as 8 languages across the Star TV Network and digital platform Hotstar.

Staggering increase in the Television impressions

Commenting on the television views, there were 160 million fans glued to the Star TV network for the CSK vs SRH match. In comparison, the IPL 2017 finale between Rising Pune Supergiant and the Mumbai Indians had seen a viewership of 121 million. To add to the existing numbers, one can imaging the number to be higher since the final was also broadcast on the Doordarshan network.

The overall numbers for the viewership of the tournament this season saw 11.3 billion gross impressions. This is a staggering 29 per cent raise from the numbers of the 2017 edition of the popular T20 league. Needless to concede, the tournament is only growing bigger and better with every passing edition. The next edition could well and potentially be a record breaker again.
