An MS Dhoni masterclass propelled the Chennai Super Kings to a famous victory against the Royal Challengers Bangalore on Wednesday. Chasing a humongous total, CSK were down and out at 74/4 when the former Indian captain came out to bat, but the way he took the game away from the home side was terrific and mind-boggling.

Despite expressing his concerns over their bowling lineup, Kohli reckons Dhoni’s knock was an absolute gem. He said it felt good to see him strike a few lusty bowls and complimented his incredible striking. He also noted that it was criminal on their part to have conceded so many runs despite taking 4 early wickets. He said that the management would be immediately addressing the problems and take a suitable decision to prevent such kind of a run flow.

“Great to see him strike a few, not against us though. We wouldn’t have liked that. He’s hitting the ball really well this IPL. He is in a happy space, batting higher up and expressing himself. Seems to be enjoying it. Credit to him as well,” Kohli said in the post-match presentation.

Just not good enough on the day, 72/4 and giving away runs like that for just 1 wicket is criminal. Something that we need to address going forward because we haven’t bowled well. If we cannot defend even 200, it’s a problem somewhere. It hurts at the moment, very tough for us to swallow but a great game for Chennai,” Kohli added.

Ambati Rayudu is a quality player

One of the stories of the season has been the resurgence of Ambati Rayudu, who was clearly out of the spotlight. But the veteran Hyderabadi batter, who averages over 50 in ODIs for the national side, pulled off some stellar knocks already this season. He bolstered his command over the Sunrisers and played another match-winning innings against the RCB. Kohli was full of praises for the 32-year-old.

“Quality player and we all know that. Has done well in the IPL and domestic, also has done well for India too. You never know who gets the opportunities. Deserves the applause. I am happy for him,” Kohli opined.
