Gautam Gambhir is undoubtedly a Delhi-boy, but he has been a recipient of love and admiration from every nook and corner of India as well as the cricketing fraternity. The cricketer has been playing in the Indian Premier League (IPL) ever since the opening season. He played three seasons for the Delhi Daredevils (DD) after which he moved to the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR).

He plied his trade seven seasons for the franchise and made an immediate impact. The Knights failed to qualify for the top-four for three seasons and Gambhir was given the role of captaincy to lift the team from the slump. The results showed immediately as he guided the Knights to the playoffs. In the season thereafter, he carried the franchise to their maiden championship when they beat Chennai Super Kings in the final in 2012.

In 2014, the Purple and Gold army raced away to their second triumph in the T20 league as they brushed aside the Kings XI Punjab in Bangalore to win the final showdown. Amidst the glories racked up by the Knights, Gautam Gambhir generated a massive fan-base in Kolkata. The left-handed batsman became an iconic figure in the city and was admired the whole of West Bengal.

However, the Knights didn’t retain him for the eleventh season, which sparked as a heart-breaking news for the supporter of the Knights. Subsequently, he was bagged by the Delhi Daredevils. Nevertheless, the enigmatic personality is back to Kolkata where the Daredevils will play their fourth game against the Knights at the iconic Eden Gardens.

Gambhir and his team reached the Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose airport today morning and quite expectantly, the former Knight was greeted gleefully by the crowd. The treatment made Gambhir go down the memory lane and he dropped an emotional message on Twitter on his return to Kolkata, also known as The City of Joy. He wrote

“The air smells familiar, faces look friendly, from ‘Gauti paaji’ all of a sudden I’ve become ‘Gautam Da’…..am I at my erstwhile home? @DelhiDaredevils @ipl @bcci #DilDilli #Dhadkega”
