IPL 2018: Here's the likely captain of Kings XI Punjab

The Kings XI Punjab currently boast of a splendid pool of players after a good campaign in the recent auctions. They attained top players like KL Rahul, Aaron Finch, Andrew Tye, Ravichandran Ashwin and Yuvraj Singh. The franchise has still not announced the captain yet.

However, according to the latest reports, Ravichandran Ashwin is likely to be rewarded the captaincy for the Punjab franchise. While the Indian off-spinner doesn’t have much of a captaincy experience, he’s been known to have a sharp mind. Also, having played under MS Dhoni for a significant period may have it’s own merits.

Ashwin will lead Kings XI Punjab in all probability 

Ravichandran Ashwin has been a fantastic addition to Punjab ranks considering his ability to spin the ball. However, the franchise has also seen him more as a captaincy probable. If reports are to believed, a final decision is pending, waiting for the approval of mentor Virender Sehwag.

“In all probability, Ashwin will lead the Kings XI Punjab team. However, a final decision will be made only after Virender Sehwag (team director and mentor) returns from Switzerland,” a Kings XI Punjab source was quoted as saying by Mid-Day.

Regarded as one of the greatest Indian spinners in modern day cricket, Ashwin was bought for a whopping Rs. 7.6 crores. He previously represented the Chennai Super Kings and the Rising Pune Supergiants. Ashwin had earlier reacted when asked about captaincy prospects for Kings XI Punjab. He remarked that if given the opportunity, he’ll grab it with both hands.

“As of now, nothing has been spoken about regarding captaincy. I have done well for TN in the past as skipper. I haven’t led TN in the T20 format. I’m someone who will not let things run away. If at all given an opportunity, I will try to give my best,” he said ahead of the Vijay Hazare Trophy in Chennai.
