The Chennai Super Kings and Rajasthan Royals make a comeback in the Indian Premier League (IPL) after serving the two-year suspension. The yellow army is always known for retaining the core group of players and building a team around them. This strategy has reaped rewards and has become a success mantra for them. However, this time around the team had to let quite a few players go as they entered the auction with just 47 corers.

One player, they will miss the most is Ravichandran Ashwin. The off-spinner is a product of the CSK talent spotting and grooming as he first rose to fame with his performances for the team in the IPL. He made his debut for the franchise in 2009 and since then was a part of the yellow brigade. Ashwin was their premier bowler and led the franchise to two Indian Premier League titles and as many Champions League T20 trophies.

I was a tad disappointed

When CSK was suspended for two years and he turned up for the Rising Pune Supergiant. When the team had a chance to retain their players ahead of the IPL 2018 auction, CSK did not retain him and in the auction, he was bought by the Kings XI Punjab for a staggering 7.6 crores.

“Obviously I was a tad disappointed. I have been here for the past ten years. Literally, I own that space at Chepauk. The cheer that I got every time I came on to bowl, I will miss that. The auction is very unpredictable and probably if you saw this auction, people were not going all guns blazing. I am a bit disappointed that I will not be turning up for CSK,” Ashwin told reporters after the Group ‘C’ match between Tamil Nadu and Gujarat in the Vijay Hazare Trophy.

However, his loyalties will change now and Ashwin will certainly do his best for the Kings XI and will try to produce a memorable performance against his former team just to give them a sense of what they let go.
