Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) have a history of failures despite having a formidable squad on paper. Despite having two of the greatest batters of the current era in Virat Kohli and AB de Villiers, they failed to chase down a low total in their last game against Sunrisers Hyderabad. However, the batting duo has done their job well enough and the South African superstar has revealed that he loves playing alongside the Indian skipper.
Kohli and de Villiers are a part of RCB for a long time now and despite their commendable efforts, their team have won only three out of their ten games. Though the Pythagorases will come out with their extraordinary calculations which will keep RCB in the hunt for the playoffs, they are very much down and out on the grounds of harsh reality.
Being the skipper of the side, Kohli had to receive massive criticism. But his Protean friend has come out to defend him by saying that he motivates the bogged down players in tough situations. “He’s always been an inspirational character and we have a few leaders in the team that carry the guys in the tough time. We just want to look ahead and try to get better,” said de Villiers, as per quoted by Sportstarlive.
Speaking about this excellent rapport with the Delhi lad, AB said “Fantastic. He’s (Virat) a great guy and I love playing with him. He’s become a great captain and an even better friend.” As the saying goes, nothing can be premeditated in this game and hence RCB are still hopeful of sneaking into the playoffs.
On being asked about his team’s lacklustre performance and the steep hill that lies ahead, de Villiers said “We haven’t played well. It’s been very disappointing, but four games are left and I would love to not live in the past much, and focus on what’s coming, which is Delhi (against Delhi Daredevils). So, we need to win that game and hopefully, have a bit of our run by the end of the season.”
I have a lot of respect for Rashid Khan, says AB
The IPL TV promo uses the famous tagline ‘Best v Best’, which held true when RCB met SRH. Bowling to one of the finest batters AB was one of the finest spinners cricket has at the moment, Rashid Khan. The Afghan eventually got the better of the more experienced campaigner and de Villiers has said that he has a lot of respect for the young man. “Rashid got me out previously. We haven’t played a lot against each other, but he bowled well and he’s a very good bowler. I have a lot of respect for him,” he commented.
