IPL 2018: Irfan Pathan makes a funny reference to praise following the KL Rahul knock

KL Rahul has been one of the most consistent batsmen of IPL 2018. Being the highest priced Indian cricketer (along with Manish Pandey), Rahul has proved in almost every match that he is worth every penny. In the very first match of Kings XI Punjab, he smashed IPL history’s fastest fifty from only 16 balls.

On Wednesday, once again, Rahul was all-over the park, scoring a brilliant 94 off 60 balls. It was not a match-saving knock, as KXIP fell 3 runs short of the target of 186 set by Mumbai Indians.

Irfan was tweeting about the match today from the beginning like he sometimes does. After Rahul’s innings, Irfan referred to an old Indian advertisement while praising Rahul’s innings in the tweet.

Here is the tweet

He wrote, “Rahuuulllll maine kaha tha pani Chala jaegaaa… (if any one remembers that ad;). Par ye ladka @klrahul11 bowlers ka pani nikal raha hay #ipl”

The advertisement Irfan is referring to is a very old Indian commercial of a certain Le Sancy soap, where a kid was wasting his time dancing in the shower, while his mother shouts from the outside that water will stop running. The ad ends with the boy being sad that the water is no more, and his mother shouts, “Rahul, maine kaha tha pani chala jayega!!”

In the match, KXIP was in chase throughout the match, but after the dismissal of Rahul in the penultimate over by Bumrah, the match slipped away from their hands. However, KL Rahul got back the orange cap once again from Rishabh Pant. Irfan’s metaphor ‘KL Rahul bowlers ka pani nikal raha hai’, which in plain language means Rahul is giving the bowlers a hard time on the field.

Kings XI Punjab has their next match against Chennai Super Kings on Sunday, May 20. Being in the sixth position with 12 points, KXIP hardly has any more chances to qualify for the playoffs. But hopefully, they can end the tournament on a winning note.
