IPL 2018: A joyous Gautam Gambhir following the gestures for fans

The Indian Premier League (IPL) presents fierce competition on the cricket pitch. The tournament is also about the fans who support their franchises through thick and thin. Recently, there has been a couple of heartfelt gestures from the teams towards the supporters by Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) and the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) respectively.

CSK organized an entire train by the name of Whistlepodu Express for the fans in order for them to witness their home-games in Pune. Prior to that, the home venue of the franchise was changed from the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai to the Maharashtra Cricket Association (MCA) Stadium in Pune. On the eve of the tournament, RCB gave their fans a pleasant surprise by retiring Jersey Number 12.

The major steps by the franchises have grabbed the headlines and have earned appreciations from every nook and corner of the country. Yesterday, during CSKs erstwhile game against Rajasthan Royals, most of the stands were filled by their fans. The heartfelt gestures have definitely pleased Gautam Gambhir, who is currently the skipper of the Delhi Daredevils.

“I have noticed two most amazing gestures from my rival teams. Both are for fans and you have to be an absolute cynic to point out any commercial angles in them. Before I share those considerate acts let me put the context out. I have often felt that for Indian cricket, the fans are either an afterthought or they are taken for granted,” Gambhir was quoted as saying by The Times of India.

Gambhir also talked about the tribute RCB paid to their fans and it would help in build loyalty. “Yes, RCB fans would still be looking for their team’s first title, but these are small dots which spread loyalties beyond wins and losses. Therefore, it is no surprise that Chinnaswamy Stadium is roaring at the opposition when they enter the arena. We expect nothing different when we play there on Saturday.” he added.
