Chennai Super Kings (CSK) made a stupendous comeback in a bid to re-stamp their authority in the Indian Premier League (IPL). They didn’t play the last couple of season owing to a suspension period of two years following their involvement in betting and other undesired scandals. However, they stormed back and won the eleventh edition of the T20 extravaganza.
They began the league with a thumping victory over the Mumbai Indians (MI) where Dwayne Bravo helped them race to victory in the death overs. They stuttered in the second leg of the tournament but rose to the occasion as the tournament moved in the playoffs stages. They played the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in the Grand Finale at the iconic Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai and comprehensively won by eight wickets with nine balls to spare.
Chennai’s magnificent run
Meanwhile, they also equalled Rohit Sharma’s men as the team with the most number of title wins in the cash-rich event. Shane Watson was absolutely phenomenal and guided his team home with a swashbuckling knock of 117 runs from 57 balls following somewhat of a bad start to the innings. He started slowly by playing ten dot deliveries but came on to his as his innings progressed.
Following CSK’s triumph, wishes flooded in for CSK. Kedar Jadhav played a match-winning knock in the opening match. Nevertheless, a hamstring injury meant that he was ruled out of the event. He vowed to make a strong comeback at the earliest. The 33-year old batsman also congratulated the team for their stupendous triumph. He wrote
“#WhistlePodu! We are the #IPL2018 Champions!! This win is for you fans.. You have also stuck by me after I got injured & have motivated me to get fit soon.Thank you for your love & support! It all began at Wankhede & it’s a great feeling to lift the Trophy here. #CSK @ChennaiIPL”
