Former Indian Kris Srikkanth is often regarded as one of the finest attacking openers of the era and he played a crucial role in India’s 1983 World Cup triumph as well. Hence, it comes as no surprise that the legendary Indian cricketer enjoyed Chennai Super Kings’ impeccable run chase against the Royal Challengers a few days ago.
Despite posting 205 runs batting first, the Royal Challengers Bangalore failed to defend it. MS Dhoni and Ambati Rayudu registered priceless fifties to help them register one of the finest run chases in IPL history. Srikkanth, in his Times of India column, heaped praises on these two cricketers and said they can chase any total with Dhoni and Rayudu in good form.
Complimenting Rayudu’s body language and MS Dhoni’s fierce commitment, he said that CSK looks very safe in their hands. CSK currently are at the helm of the points table with 10 points in 6 games and a pretty phenomenal net run rate. He also said that it’ll take something very special from the opponents to beat them in this form.
“The knock by MS Dhoni against RCB should rank as one of the best he has played in the shortest format. Finishing the chase in his usual fashion is only expected but I was more impressed with the way he started. The body language was so positive from ball one that he believed he could go past the line without much hassle,” Srikkanth wrote.
“I truly admire the fierce commitment of Dhoni. Looks like the man is on a mission and it will take something special from his opponents to stop his march. Add the form Ambati Rayudu is in and I don’t think any total posted against CSK looks safe enough,” he added.
Dhoni-Rayudu combo working very well
Stressing on how important good partnerships are for a team to get over the line, Srikkanth reckons Dhoni and Rayudu are working very well together. He also feels that these both players bring the best out of each other.
“To win consistently in any format, a team needs partnerships and the Dhoni-Rayudu combo is just working too well. Sometimes when you are batting alone with a particular batsman, your game moves up a notch even without you realizing. The two seem to be bringing out the best out of each other.”
