The eleventh edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) has been a witness to some jaw-dropping cricket. Batsmen have dictated terms, however, the bowlers have left no stone unturned to get their share of attention from the audience. The event has seen some Indian bowlers emerge who have been impressive with their prowess with the white cherry.

Avesh Khan and Shivam Mavi are products of the Under-19 team. While Avesh played the tournament in 2016 in Bangladesh under the captaincy of Ishan Kishan, Mavi represented the team under Prithvi Shaw’s leadership in New Zealand. Both Avesh and Mavi found buyers in the auction and fetched INR 70 lakh and INR 3 crore respectively.

“Indian bowlers catching the eye”- Kris Srikkanth

While Mavi is known for his raw pace, which was palpable from the World Cup itself, Avesh is known for his consistency with line and length. Meanwhile, the aggression from both of them has been one to watch out for. Mavi and Avesh are currently playing for the Kolkata Knight Riders and the Delhi Daredevils respectively. The bowlers have attracted appreciations from former cricketers, the latest of them is Kris Srikkanth.

“A matter of joy is some of the unheralded Indian bowlers catching the eye with impressive performances in this IPL. Among them, Avesh Khan with his raw pace and disconcerting bounce and Shivam Mavi with his fluid action and nice rhythm, have impressed me the most,” the former Indian cricketer wrote in his column for The Times of India (TOI).

“The numbers might not stack up favourably for this duo, yet if moulded properly, they can serve Indian cricket well for a long time, in all formats. Even in a run filled game in Pune, Avesh proved his mettle by hitting the bat high and hard. To hurry class batsmen with pace is a rare quality and bowling fast is an art that can hardly be taught,” Srikkanth added.
