The Mumbai Indians are having a very tough time in the IPL this season. The defending champions recently suffered their fifth defeat in six matches this season. The most recent defeat came against the Sunrisers Hyderabad in Mumbai. The Mumbai Indians failed to chase down a modest total of 118 on a track that has always been a batting wicket. Certainly, the concerns are on the rise for the coach Mahela Jayawardene and skipper Rohit Sharma.

Chasing a total of 118 should not have been a tough task. However, the MI batsmen made a mockery of the run chase and were bundled out for a paltry 87 in under 19 overs in the match. The fans hoped that the senior players like Rohit Sharma and Kieron Pollard would step up to the occasion. Much to their disappointment, the poor run of the senior players continued in the match.

It is worth noting that the Windies star, Kieron Pollard, is under some serious pressure to perform now. His place in the side is being questioned big time. With questions on his place being on the rise, the MI coach Mahela Jayawardene has finally spoken about the issue.

‘Will take a call on Pollard’

After the defeat against SRH, as per the quotes in Times Now, Mahela Jayawardene admitted that Pollard has been struggling. However, he admitted that the team management will have to back their players. Adding further on the same note, he also stressed on the fact that the onus is on him to take a call on the same since he is the coach of the team.’

“Yes, Kieron has been struggling. But we trust him within the system. You’ve got to trust your players. You can’t keep chopping and changing just because one doesn’t fire. You’ve got to keep the structure (of the team),” Jayawardene quoted.

“Yes, eventually, as a coach, I’ll have to take a call. But it’s too early right now. I need at least 24 hours to reflect on what happened today. I can’t be too emotional about it,” he added further.
