The winning streak of the Sunrisers Hyderabad continued in the season as they thumped the Kolkata Knight Riders by 5 wickets in their most recent encounter. The team had won their first two matches at home this season and had arrived in Kolkata for their first away fixture of the season. Much to their delight, their winning run continued on the away track as well with a complete show against the Kolkata Knight Riders.
It is worth noting that the Sunrisers Hyderbad were clear winners in the game in all the three departments. Their bowlers never let the KKR batsmen settle in the game and hurt them with regular strikes. Also, the fielding standards were spectacular with the likes of Manish Pandey, Shakib Al Hasan, and Kane Williamson taking stunners on the day. The bowling and the fielding helped them restrict the opposition to a modest total of 138 in the stipulated 20 overs.
In the run chase, they got off to a skying start with Wriddhiman Saha going all guns blazing. Later, skipper Kane Williamson and Shakib Al Hasan rallied along to get the SRH camp closer to the target. Eventually, it was a little unbeaten cameo from Yusuf Pathan that sealed the fate of the match. The Orange Army registered their third win of the season and it was a total team effort yet again.
Here are the Sunrisers Hyderabad Player Ratings for the match:
Shikhar Dhawan – 2/10
Coming in to the game, Shikhar Dhawan was the most consistent batter in the SRH camp. But the veteran southpaw had a disappointing time with the bat on the day. He could only score 7 before becoming the second victim of Sunil Narine in the match. Dhawan would hope to get back to his good run in the coming games.
Wriddhiman Saha – 5/10
Wriddhiman Saha started off his batting on the fourth gear today. He smashed a quick 24 off just 15 deliveries to give a flying start to the Sunrisers Hyderabad. Unfortunately for the veteran cricketer, he could not get going for long in the game. He needs to convert these good starts to big scores.
Kane Williamson – 9/10
The Sunrisers Hyderabad skipper Kane Williamson had a very good time with the bat on the day. Williamson top scored for the Orange Army with a 44 ball 50 to his name. The SRH innings largely revolved around his knock that was studded with four boundaries and a six. He got out at a crucial stage in the game and should have finished things for his side on the day.
Manish Pandey – 6/10
All the rating points of Manish Pandey are for his fielding skills. His poor run with the bat continued in this game as well. But Pandey was electrifying in the field. He took a scorcher at point to get rid of Nitish Rana. Later, he ran backwards to take a swirler to ensure Andre Russell headed back to the pavilion cheaply on the day.
Shakib Al Hasan – 8.5/10
Shakib Al Hasan had a very good day at the office. He performed well in all the three departments in the game. He bowled well in the middle overs and returned with figures of 2/21 in his quota of four overs. This included the wicket of Chris Lynn that he completed by taking a diving return catch off his own bowling. Later, he also scored crucial 27 runs with the bat.
Deepak Hooda – 4/10
Deepak Hooda’s services with the bat were not largely needed on the day. He remained unbeaten on 5 off 9 deliveries at one end whilst Yusuf Pathan did the task of finishing the game on the day. Earlier in the match, Hooda was very quick on the field and made a few spectacular saves in the field.
Yusuf Pathan – 8/10
When the Knight Riders got the wicket of Kane Williamson in the 18th over, they thought they had a sniff back in the game. But the veteran batsman Yusuf Pathan cleared all those misconceptions. Yusuf smashed a quick 17 off 7 with a couple of fours and a six to his name. The six was the winning shot that sealed the game for the Sunrisers Hyderabad. Yusuf was a steady head at the crease on the day and looked like the man on a mission.
Rashid Khan – 3/10
Rashid Khan had one of those rare off days at work. Albeit he did not go away for a plenty of runs, he failed to get wickets either. The KKR batsmen negotiated him well in the game. In the four overs that he bowled in the game, he gave away 31 runs and went wicketless.
Bhuvneshwar Kumar – 8.5/10
Bhuvneshwar Kumar found his way back in the SRH lineup for the game after having missed out on playing the previous game. Bhuvi finished the innings as the pick of the SRH bowlers with 3/26 to his name. He started off by dismissing Robin Uthappa in the third over of the game. Later, he came in the death overs to dismiss Dinesh Karthik and Shubman Gill.
Billy Stanlake – 8/10
Billy Stanlake was the star of the show for the Sunrisers Hyderabad in the previous game. He had yet another impressive outing with the ball on the day. He scalped 2/21 in the four overs that he bowled. He dismissed Nitish Rana early on in the KKR innings and then accounted for the dismissal of the big fish, Andre Russell.
Siddarth Kaul – 2/10
Siddarth Kaul has been very impressive in this year’s IPL thus far. However, this particular outing against the Knight Riders was not the best that he has had in the recent times. He leaked 37 runs in his quota of four overs. He got a consolation wicket of Shivam Mavi in the end overs of the KKR innings.
