Kings XI Punjab brought an end to SRH’s winning streak in the season as Chris Gayle produced a special knock against the team with the best bowling attack in the tournament. Gayle scored the first century of the season with an unbeaten 104 that included 11 sixes. He took the young Rashid Khan to cleaners to power his team to a big score of 193/3. The Sunrisers Hyderabad never looked like achieving required rate despite fifties from Kane Williamson and Manish Pandey.

All the stats and numbers that were recorded during SRH’s first defeat in this season:

1 – This was Kings XI Punjab’s first win in Mohali against Sunrisers Hyderabad in the IPL. This was also the first time since 2015 that KXIP managed to defeat SRH in the IPL. KXIP lost its previous six meetings in the IPL against SRH.


1 – KXIP became the first team to elect to bat first after winning the toss. The captains in the previous 15 matches elected to bowl on winning the toss.


4 – Kane Williamson registered his first defeat as captain in the IPL after three wins in his first three matches. Only MS Dhoni and George Bailey won their first four IPL matches as captains.


11 – Number of sixes for Chris Gayle in this game. This is the first time a Kings XI Punjab player hit ten sixes in an IPL inning. Adam Gilchrist, Glenn Maxwell and David Miller hit nine sixes each in an innings for KXIP. This was also the first instance of a player hitting ten sixes in an innings against SRH.


21Chris Gayle’s 21 centuries are the most for any player in the T20 format. The next most on the list Michael Klinger (7), Luke Wright (7) and Brendon McCullum (7) collectively scored 21 hundreds. Gayle scored a T20 hundred for 12 different teams. This hundred was Gayle’s 6th century in the IPL out of which five came while playing for RCB.


53 – Ravichandran Ashwin conceded 50 and more runs in a Twenty20 game for the first time in his career. The 48 runs in the T20I against Zimbabwe in 2010 were the previous most Ashwin conceded in a T20 game. The previous most he conceded in an IPL game was 46 runs vs RCB in 2012.


55 – Runs Rashid Khan conceded in this game; the most by him in a T20. This was the first time Rashid conceded 50 runs in an IPL game. The previous most Rashid conceded was 52 runs in a T20I against Zimbabwe in 2015.
