IPL 2018: Match 22, DD vs KXIP – Most Valuable and Liable player of the game

Delhi Daredevils continued their struggles in the tournament as they started their home leg with a narrow 4-run defeat against the Kings XI in a low scoring thriller. In the absence of Chris Gayle, the Punjab team could only make 143/8 in their 20 overs on a sluggish track. Delhi’s chase was affected by three wickets in the powerplay and economical spells from the Kings XI Punjab spinners. Shreyas Iyer fought till the end with a fifty but failed to chase down 17 runs in the final over as KXIP recorded their 4th consecutive win.

Liam Plunkett made a memorable debut by taking three wickets that too of the set batsmen KL Rahul, Mayank Agarwal and Karun Nair in three different stages of the innings. Despite being on the losing end, the England player turned out to be the most valuable player of the game as per the CricTracker’s player value algorithm. Plunkett recorded the figures of 3/17 which are the best for a DD player on IPL debut. His performances earned him a value of 77 lakhs. The home team captain Gautam Gambhir turned out to be the liable player as he scored only four runs in the 13 balls he faced.

Shreyas Iyer’s fighting knock earned him a value of 70.5 lakhs which is the 2nd highest from the game behind Plunkett. No player from Kings XI earned a value of 50 lakhs and more from the game. Karun Nair, the winning team’s top scorer with 34 runs, was the MVP for his team. His knock and the catch he took in the match were valued at 41 lakhs. Yuvraj Singh was the player with the lowest value from the game for KXIP as he scored only 14 runs in the match.

Avesh Khan dismissed Aaron Finch and Yuvraj Singh in the four overs where he conceded 36 runs. He earned a value of 29.5 lakhs from the game which is 5.9 times his average match salary. Avesh was bought by Delhi for 70 lakhs. Plunkett, who came into the DD squad as a replacement player, valued 5.39 times his average match salary on his debut. The pacer was roped in at his base price of 2 crores in place of Kagiso Rabada.
