The Delhi Daredevils seem to be dealing only in extremes this season. Up until their most recent game against the Kolkata Knight Riders, they had lost five matches out of the six that they had played. And now, they have managed to register a comprehensive win against the Knight Riders to keep their hopes alive in the season. Coming in to the game, they were under some serious pressure to perform.

Under the new leadership of Shreyas Iyer, the team managed to come up with a positive result in the match, which was their second home game of the season. Talking about the game, it was the skipper who led from the front with a whirlwind unbeaten 93 with the bat. He was very well supported by young Prithvi Shaw, who scored a valuable 62 as Delhi Daredevils finished with a score of 219/3 in their stipulated 20 overs.

In the run chase, the Kolkata Knight Riders could never really get in to the game. They lost their top order batsmen cheaply with the DD new ball bowlers striking early in the game. The visitors found themselves in the hunt for a brief while with Andre Russell and Shubman Gill leading the counter attack but the ask proved to be a little too much at the end of the day. The visitors fell short by 55 runs.

Here are the Delhi Daredevils player ratings for the match:

Colin Munro – 4/10

Colin Munro was brought back in to the side after a good gap in the season. The hard hitting Kiwi opener blasted some quick runs on the day. He scored a quick 33 off just 18 deliveries to give a brisk start to the hosts. He failed to keep going and ended up being dismissed in the 7th over of the match.

Prithvi Shaw – 8/10

Prithvi Shaw is a prodigy and everyone has already accepted the fact. The youngster added another feather to his hat in the game. He became the youngest player to score an IPL fifty in the history of the tournament. Shaw scored a very valuable 62 off just 44 balls with 7 fours and 2 sixes to his name on the day.

Shreyas Iyer – 9.5/10

Shreyas Iyer was the star of the night for the Delhi Daredevils. The newly appointed skipper played a fearless knock that put his team in firm command of the game. He smashed an unbeaten 93 off just 40 deliveries with 10 sixes to his name. In the final over of the DD innings, he hammered 29 runs off Shivam Mavi to finish things on a high for his side. Also, he looked very calm with the captaincy hat on him.

Glenn Maxwell – 4/10

Glenn Maxwell has been performing decently for his new franchise this season. He has been getting good starts but has failed to make them big. Yet again, he got a good start and scored 27 off 18 deliveries before getting dismissed in the fag end of the DD innings. With the ball, Maxwell returned with figures of 2/22 in his two overs that included the big wicket of Chris Lynn.

Rishabh Pant – 1/10

Rishabh Pant has been the most consistent batsman for the Delhi Daredevils this season. But he had a night to forget with the bat on the day. Pant was sent packing for a golden duck in the match. He arrived at the crease after the fall of Prithvi Shaw’s wicket and the team needed him to carry forward the good momentum. But Pant ended up edging one to the keeper to head back after facing just one ball on the day.

Vijay Shankar – 2/10

Vijay Shankar did not have a lot to do in the match. He did not get an opportunity to show his skills with the bat. Later, he bowled just one over in the KKR innings and gave away 10 runs in it. He did not get an opportunity to bowl again since the DD skipper had a lot of options at his disposal on the day.

Rahul Tewatia – 2/10

Rahul Tewatia did not have a lot to do in the match either. Tewatia’s services with the bat were not needed on the day. And with the ball, he bowled just one over in which he conceded 11 runs.

Liam Plunkett – 7/10

Liam Plunkett was the most impressive bowler for Delhi Daredevils in the previous game. He retained his place in the side and came up with yet another excellent spell of fast bowling. Albeit he went wicketless, he managed to keep things tight in the game. Plunkett gave away just 24 runs in the four overs that he bowled.

Amit Mishra – 8.5/10

There was a stage in the game when Gill and Russell threatened to take the game away from Delhi. Amit Mishra came in to bowl the 16th over to turn the tables yet again. Mishra’s over saw Gill getting run out and then Mavi getting cleaned up as well. The veteran leggie bowled a maiden to push the visitors on the back foot. Earlier in the innings, Mishra had also dismissed Dinesh Karthik. He finished with figures of 1/23 in his four overs.

Avesh Khan – 8/10

Avesh Khan has been a very valuable addition to the Delhi roster in the last couple of games. Avesh backed up his good performance from the previous game with another decent spell in this game. He dismissed the in-form batsman Nitish Rana cheaply in the game. Later, he also accounted for the big wicket of Andre Russell. Avesh finished with figures of 2/29 in his four overs.

Trent Boult – 7/10

Trent Boult has been the most consistent bowler in the Delhi Daredevils lineup this year. The Kiwi superstar continued his good show in this game as well. Albeit he was taken away for 44 runs in his spell of four overs, his twin strike with the new ball made a big impact in the match. He dismissed Sunil Narine and Robin Uthappa in the match.
