Defending champions Mumbai Indians stood alive in the competition with an all-round team effort in the crucial game against the table-toppers. Despite fielding with a bowler short, Mumbai restricted the home team to 169/5 as Suresh Raina scored an unbeaten 75. Mumbai ensured they didn’t throw away like the previous game as they played safely by keeping wickets in hand. Their skipper Rohit Sharma capitalized the start with an unbeaten fifty to take his team over the line.

2 – This match is only the second instance in the IPL where a team successfully chased down the target with eight wickets and more in hand but only two balls to spare. Chennai Super Kings got over the line with eight wickets in hand against DD in the 2014 edition while chasing 179 which they reached in 19.4 overs.
8 – Mumbai’s 8-wicket win is the 3rd instance of a team winning with eight and more wickets in hand in MI-CSK IPL games. MI defeated CSK by nine wickets in the 2008 edition in Mumbai and by eight wickets in the season opener in Chennai.
16 – Number of man of the match awards for Rohit Sharma in the IPL. Only Chris Gayle (20) won more match awards in the IPL than Rohit. AB de Villiers and Yusuf Pathan also have 16 man of the match awards in the IPL.
16 – Number of times Rohit Sharma remained unbeaten in successful run-chases in the IPL. Only Ravindra Jadeja (19) and Yusuf Pathan (18) remained unbeaten in successful IPL chases on more occasions than Rohit. MS Dhoni and Gautam Gambhir also remained unbeaten on 16 occasions during successful chases in the IPL.
75* – Suresh Raina’s unbeaten 75 is his 12th fifty coming on the losing side in the IPL. This was the 4th time Raina scored 75 and more in an IPL match where his team ended up on the losing side.
150 – MS Dhoni became the first captain to feature in 150 IPL matches. Gautam Gambhir (129) is the only other player with 100+ matches as captain.
606 – Rohit Sharma became the 2nd player to complete 600 runs against the Chennai Super Kings in the IPL. He scored 606 runs against them in 23 innings at an average of 30.30 with help of six fifties.
22029 – Suresh Raina completed 22000 runs in his professional career. He completed the milestone when he reached his individual score of 47 in this match.
