The rain gods once made their appearance during the game between Delhi Daredevils and Rajasthan Royals that is underway at the Feroz Shah Kotla in New Delhi. The match got underway nearly an hour and a half after the scheduled start and was reduced to 18 overs-a-side after Rajasthan elected to bowl first. This is a crucial match for the home side as they have lost six of the eight matches and need to win all their remaining six matches to finish in the final four.

Daredevils brought in the left-arm spinner Shahbaz Nadeem for Rahul Tewatia while Royals made two changes in their side as well. The shortened game began with the dangerous Colin Munro bagging a golden duck trying to drive a delivery from Dhawal Kulkarni in the very first over of the game.

18-year-old Prithvi Shaw took on the Rajasthan bowlers and utilized the field restrictions to greate effect. He struck 16 runs off his Mumbai-mate Kulkarni’s over and 14 off three successive deliveries in Jaydev Unadkat’s first over. He played a delightful knock of 47 from 25 balls with four fours and four sixes before getting out to Shreyas Gopal.

After Shaw’s dismissal, the DD skipper Shreyas Iyer and Rishabh Pant produced a carnage. The pair added 92 for the 3rd wicket in just 43 deliveries. Iyer scored 50 off 35 balls with six boundaries while Pant blasted a 29-ball 69 that included five maximums. The rain returned towards the end of the DD’s innings and umpires decided to stop the play soon after Glenn Maxwell’s unsuccessful review against an lbw decision. The home team made 196/6 in the 17.1 overs and didn’t bat any further in the match.

Rajasthan Royals will have to bat a minimum of five overs for the match to produce a result. The Royals are at the moment chasing a target of 151 in 12 overs.
