Delhi Daredevils stay alive in the playoffs qualification race as they defeated Rajasthan Royals by a narrow 4-run margin (DLS method) in their home fixture. The rain played spoilsport for the second time during a DD-RR match this season reducing the game to 18 overs-a-side. An aggressive batting display from the young Daredevils batsmen took them to 196/6 in 17.1 overs before rain returned. Jos Buttler opened the innings in RR’s attempt to chase the revised 151-run target in 12 overs and he responded with an 18-ball fifty. The Royals’ innings struggled with consistency after Buttler’s dismissal ending up with only 146/5.

All the stats and numbers that were recorded during another rain-shortened game between DD and RR:

4.1 – Buttler completed his fifty in 4.1 overs of RR’s innings. This is only the 3rd instance when a player has scored a fifty in the IPL that early in the innings. KL Rahul got to his 14-ball fifty on the 5th ball of the 3rd overs of KXIP’s innings while David Warner scored a fifty by over 4.1 of SRH’s inning during the previous edition against KKR.

7 – Delhi Daredevils brought an end to their 7-match losing streak against the Rajasthan Royals in the IPL. This win is their first in the IPL against RR since the 6-wicket victory in Jaipur, 2012.

18 – Jos Buttler’s 18-ball fifty is the fastest fifty for Rajasthan Royals in the IPL. The previous fastest belonged to Owais Shah that he scored in 19 balls against RCB in the 2012 edition. Buttler and Owais are the only players to score a fifty in less than 20 balls for RR in the IPL.

18 – Buttler’s 18-ball fifty is the 3rd fastest fifty in the IPL to be on the losing side. Suresh Raina scored a 16-ball fifty against KXIP in 2014 for CSK while Chris Morris scored a 17-ball fifty in 2016 for DD against GL in losing cause.

50 – Amit Mishra became the first player to feature in 50 Twenty20 matches at the Feroz Shah Kotla in Delhi. RR all-rounder Ben Stokes completed 100 appearances in the Twenty20 format.

50 – Shreyas Iyer (51) and Rishabh Pant (50) completed 50 sixes in the IPL during this match. Both the players have only featured for Delhi Daredevils in the IPL thus far. Virender Sehwag (85) and David Warner (58) are the only other players to hit 50 IPL sixes for the Daredevils.

2014 – Only the 6th time Ajinkya Rahane didn’t bat during his team innings in the IPL. The last such instance was during RR’s last league match in the 2014 edition against MI. The first four instances when Rahane did not bat in an IPL match was recorded in the first four editions.
