The Royal Challengers Bangalore‘s batting came to the fore on the day they needed to deliver to set up a close win against the Sunrisers Hyderabad in a must-win match. A collective batting performance saw the hosts post a huge total of 218/6 in their 20 overs. The Sunrisers tried to match RCB’s total with a valiant effort from Kane Williamson and Manish Pandey who added 135 runs for the 3rd wicket in just 67 deliveries. The visitors stood favourites to win the game with 26 needed from ten balls with eight wickets in hand but ended up scoring only 11 runs.
Moeen Ali turned up with his best performance of the season by attacking the SRH’s bowling attack during the middle overs. He scored 65 in just 34 balls that included six sixes and shared 107-run stand for the 3rd wicket with AB de Villiers.
Moeen was the Most Valuable Player of the game according to the CricTracker’s Player Value Algorithm as his match performances earned him a value of 83 lakhs. Sunrisers Hyderabad‘s Basil Thampi was the Liable Player of the game for recording the most expensive bowling figures in the IPL history. He earned a marginally higher value than Deepak Hooda but it will be too harsh on the Baroda all-rounder who faced only one ball in the game.
AB de Villiers produced his best with both the bat and in catching when RCB needed the most from him. The South African top-scored for the home team with a 39-ball 69 and a sensational catch at the boundary to dismiss the dangerous Alex Hales. De Villiers’ match contributions were valued at 83 lakhs and were awarded the man of the match as well. Colin de Grandhomme and Sarfaraz Khan’s valuable knocks towards the end that pushed RCB’s total past 210 were valued at 49.5 lakhs and 24.5 lakhs respectively.
Kane Williamson returned with the best value among all the players in the game despite ending on the losing side. The SRH captain played a sensational knock to keep his team in the hunt with a 42-ball 81 that included seven fours and five sixes. Williamson’s innings was valued at 89.5 lakhs while his partner Manish Pandey earned a match value of 67.5 lakhs for his supporting act of 38-ball 62. In a high scoring match, Rashid Khan turned up with figures of 3/27 which earned him a value of 77 lakhs and was easily the best bowler of the match.
