The Mumbai Indians are going through a very tough phase in the ongoing edition of the Indian Premier League. The defending champions have lost five out of the six matches that they have played thus far. They are desperate to overturn their fortunes and will look up to the senior players like Kieron Pollard, Rohit Sharma, and Jasprit Bumrah to come up with match winning performances.

One of the key reasons for the failure of the team plans this year has been the inability of the senior players to allow the younger lot settle around their good work. The youngsters have been looking for support from the seniors, but the seniors have largely let them down. While the likes of Bumrah and Rohit still have some handy performances to show against their name, Kieron Pollard seems to be one ending up being the scapegoat.

Pollard has not been utilized in the bowling department, which translates to the fact that he is seen as a batsman in the side. No wonder why he has even batted at number four position in a few games this season. Despite the promotion in the batting position, the form of Kieron Pollard has been far from being impressive. After his failure in the previous game, in which Mumbai Indians bundled out for a paltry 87, the axe is looming large on the Trinidadian.

Duminy in for Kieron Pollard?

The Mumbai Indians coach Mahela Jayawardene also hinted at Pollard struggling with form and the management knowing the fact. There has been a widespread cry to replace him with a certain JP Duminy, who is yet to play a match this season. The next assignment for the Mumbai Indians is against the Chennai Super Kings. Reportedly, this game could be the last chance for Pollard to show his mettle and prove his worth in the side.

“It’s a hard decision for the MI management to take but they have to do it sooner rather than later,” a source close to the developments said as per the reports in Times of India.
