The first day of the IPL auction has ended and all the teams seem to be content with their picks. The Daredevils have bagged 12 players today which is second only to the Sunrisers Hyderabad who brought 14 players. The Delhi based franchise also made some interesting picks and was very active on their Twitter handle throughout the day.

Delhi Daredevils look to build a balanced side

The double-D side covered all the bases in the auction today. They got some good batsmen, all-rounders, and bowlers. They used their RTM cards for the pace duo of Mohammad Shami and Kagiso Rabada. DD also got some game-changing players like Glenn Maxwell.

After making 12 additions to the side, the team is now left with a purse balance of Rs. 12.3 crores. They will still have to buy three more players to reach the minimum requirement. Former Daredevils captain, Gautam Gambhir is back into the side. He earlier expressed his desire to play for the Daredevils. As per reports, he also asked the KKR management not to bid for him in the auction. Now that he is back in the Delhi side, he would be the obvious choice to lead the side.

Talking to the press after the auction, the Dehli head coach, Ricky Ponting said that Gambhir would lead the side in 2018. Ponting also said that they had some talks with Gautam before the auction. Ricky added that Gautam conveyed to them that he wanted to play for the Daredevils and possibly captain the side.

Further, Ponting also added that Gambhir had a good last season in the IPL. He said that he was in some good form and hoped that Gambhir can carry it into this tournament. He also noted that he had some good time with the Kolkata Knight Riders.
