The 11th edition of the Indian Premier League has already provided some blockbuster encounters. The latest entry into this list was the game between Delhi Daredevils and Mumbai Indians, which went down to the wire and entertained everyone. Delhi emerged victorious in the end thanks to a spectacular performance from opener Jason Roy.

Batting first, Mumbai Indians got off to a breathtaking start with Evin Lewis and Suryakumar Yadav adding 84 runs in the first 6 overs. But once wickets started to fall, the run-rate dipped. Ishan Kishan played a decent cameo as well, but towards the end, the Delhi bowlers ran riot and managed to restrict Mumbai to 194 and that’s wonderful considering they were in contention for a score above 220.

Jason Roy took the onus upon himself and bludgeoned the bowlers to all parts of the Powerplay. Rishabh Pant provided great support for him and played some pretty decent shots in his own way. Although wickets fell at quick intervals and Mumbai‘s bowlers made it interesting with some great death bowling, Roy held his nerve and finished the game in style.

Here are the player ratings of the Delhi Daredevils.

1. Jason Roy – 9/10

Can’t get better than this! Jason Roy was absolutely breathtaking in his first game this season. After taking the bowlers apart in the Powerplay, he held his nerve fabulously in the death overs and ensured he his side over the line. It was a nearly-perfect performance from the English bloke which helped Delhi get their first points on board.

2. Gautam Gambhir – 6/10

Not a great performance with the bat, but on the field, as a captain, Gambhir once again proves himself as one of the best in this tournament. The way he made his bowling changes and inspired his bowlers to make a stellar comeback.

3. Rishabh Pant – 7.5/10

A great performance from the youngster, a rendition which truly justifies his price tag. He took some pressure off Jason Roy and tamed the bowlers with his imperious power hitting. Should’ve got a half-century, but that was a decent effort from the lad.

4. Glenn Maxwell – 7/10

Disappointing with the bat, but brilliant with the ball. In a game where the opposition scored over 190 runs, 21 runs in 3 overs is fabulous. Once he gets going with the bat, he will be a force to reckon with.

5. Shreyas Iyer – 7/10

Just had to hold his nerve and provide a good stand to Jason Roy, a job he did with surgical precision. Iyer didn’t get a lot of runs today, but every run he scored was priceless for his skipper and his team.

6. Vijay Shankar – 5/10

It’s hard to rate a player who didn’t get to do anything on the given day. Gambhir perhaps felt that Maxwell was doing well so he didn’t let Shankar bowl since the medium pacers were traveling to all parts of the Wankhede.

7. Daniel Christian – 6/10

Slightly expensive, but not a bad outing for the Australian all-rounder. Daniel Christian picked up two big wickets of Kieron Pollard and Ishan Kishan and ensured the momentum shifted in Delhi’s way during the death overs.

8. Rahul Tewatia – 7/10

Conceded a few boundaries courtesy Ishan Kishan’s exploits, but Tewatia was the game changer for Delhi. He removed the openers with some canny bowling and was difficult to pick. This performance should give him a lot of confidence.

9. Shahbaz Nadeem – 5/10

Bowled just two overs and got hammered by Evin Lewis and Suryakumar Yadav. A forgettable outing for the very talented left-arm spinner.

10. Mohammed Shami – 6/10

Expensive with the ball and on a day when all the bowlers leaked so many runs, 9 runs an over is still a par performance. He got one wicket to his tally as well of the very dangerous Krunal Pandya.

11. Trent Boult – 7/10

Conceded a lot in the early overs, but was splendid in the death overs. He got his blockholes spot on and helped his side gain some momentum before heading into the run chase. He also picked up the wickets of Rohit Sharma and Hardik Pandya.
