The Kings XI Punjab are in a happy space at the moment. Much to their relief, they have come good this season after having poorly performed in the last three editions of the tournament. One of the key architects of their successful campaign thus far in the season is their opener KL Rahul. Rahul has been in a sensational form ever since his first game in the KXIP outfit, where he slammed the fastest fifty of the IPL history.
Last season, Rahul was with the Royal Challengers Bangalore team in the competition. Recently, he spoke at the transition he has gone through across the two franchises. Rahul remarked that he never felt the pressure in the RCB camp as the onus was always on Virat Kohli and AB de Villiers. On the other hand, at the KXIP dug out, he is shouldering a greater responsibility.
“With a new franchise, I have a lot of responsibility to shoulder. When I was in RCB, the major responsibility was on Kohli and AB. They were always at the centre of the batting force, for me it wasn’t that pressurising. I enjoy my role here. The form has been favorable, and I believe, I continue to do well in the season ahead,” KL Rahul told India TV during the show ‘Cricket Ki Baat’.
On the KXIP atmosphere
Commenting on the mood at the KXIP camp, KL Rahul noted that he is on a very good note on the personal front. The team has shown a lot of faith in him and he is hungry to deliver the goods for the team. He is trying to make the most out of the opportunity that is coming his way.
“I am in a good mindspace and have a hunger to score runs. KXIP have showed so much of faith in me, so I have to deliver and win games for them. It’s in my nature that when I go on ground, I assess the situation and try to win the game for my team,” said Rahul.
On Chris Gayle
Along with KL Rahul, another batsman who has been in top form for the Kings is Chris Gayle. Commenting on Gayle, the Karnakata lad hailed the big Jamaican as a complete entertainer. He admitted that it is an absolute delight to play alongside him.
“He is a complete entertainer. He is a destructive batsman, so you enjoy when you play along with him. With his intimidating stats, he always remains to be one of the best T20 batsman in the world,” noted Rahul.
