The Kings XI Punjab had a disappointing end to their campaign in the 2018 edition of the IPL. They finished at the penultimate position in the points table. Certainly, the poor result was disheartening for the team, the owners including Preity Zinta, the fans, and the support staff. At one stage in the tournament, the Kings looked like a certain side to make it to the playoffs. They were in a thundering form at the start of the season.
They had registered five wins in the first six games that they played. However, what followed next was an absolute shocker of results for the Men in Red. The team went on to lost 7 out of the next 8 matches that they played. In their last league game, they were still in with a chance to make it to the playoffs. All they needed to do was to beat the Chennai Super Kings by a margin of 53 runs or more in the match.
Much to their disappointment, neither could they keep the margin in their mind, nor could they beat the Super Kings. As a result, they crashed out of the tournament. To make things worse for them, another unwanted controversy came their way right after the game. A video footage went viral on the social media wherein their co-owner, Preity Zinta, was allegedly seen quoting that she is happy to see Mumbai Indians get knocked out of the season. This brought a lot of infamy to the KXIP boss for her lack of sportsmanship.
Now, Preity has come up with a tweet to clear the air about the alleged remark. She slammed the media for misreporting what she said. She noted that she never mentioned any team and that team could have been any team and not just the Mumbai Indians. Furthermore, she stressed that she never used the word ‘finals’ in her remark.
Here is what Preity Zinta had to say about the controversy:
“Dear Media I will appreciate it if you dont create unnecessary controversy of me being happy that another team got knocked out so my team had a real chance. It could be any other team & the word “Finals” never featured in any conversation so stop misreporting as always #fedup,” Preity Zinta wrote in her tweet.
