It was a disappointing defeat for the Kings XI Punjab last night as they edged out of the playoffs qualification despite being so close. The Kings needed to beat CSK by a margin of 53 runs or more, but in the end, the Preity Zinta co-owned franchise succumbed to a 5 wicket defeat.

It was one of the most tricky fixtures of this season as other team’s fortunes also depended on this match. A win for KXIP would have implied that Mumbai Indians qualify but a vice versa result guaranteed a spot for inaugural IPL winners, Rajasthan Royals.

While the match was in the penultimate stages and KXIP reeling, co-owner Preity Zinta could be seen frustrated in the stands. However, she managed to find a silver-lining in the worst of situations when she was caught saying, “I am just very happy that Mumbai is not going to the finals..Really happy.”

If you think that didn’t happen, the video below will serve as a testament to that!

Chennai Super Kings (CSK) ended Kings XI Punjab’s run in the tournament by winning the last game of the league stage  It was a must-win IPL encounter for KXIP and with this loss, R Ashwin’s side has been eliminated from the playoff race.

Proteas speedster Lingi NGidi was the star performer of the day, returning with exceptional figures of 4/10. Other CSK’ bowlers also performed well to bundle out KXIP at 153. Shardul Thakur and Dwayne Bravo took two wickets each while Ravindra Jadeja and Deepak Chahar managed to pick one wicket each. Karun Nair (54 runs off 26 balls) and Manoj Tiwary (35 runs off 30 balls) put up a decent show to lift the KXIP spirits.

CSK faltered a bit in the chase, but Raina’s clinical half century and MS Dhoni’s late pickings ensured that the southpaws cross the line.
