Young Indian batsman Prithvi Shaw is making a big name for himself in Indian cricket at such a young age. The Mumbai cricketer recently led the India U19 team to a World Cup win in the U19 World Cup this year. After his arrival back home, he went straight to join the Mumbai team for the Vijay Hazare Trophy. Shaw, who is just touching 19, already has a bat sponsor and is the brand ambassador of Protinex.

Recently, he attended a media event for Protinex where he answered the media with utmost composure. As per the quotes in Times of India, Prithvi Shaw was asked to compare the batting difficulties in New Zealand and on the tracks in India. Shaw, in a very humble way, noted that there is not much difference. He has kept his game plans the same for either of the two situations.

“Well, it wasn’t very different. I came back from the World Cup and then started playing for Mumbai again. My game was the same because even in New Zealand we played the One-day format. We have qualified for the knock-outs and are heading to Delhi for the quarterfinals,” quoted Prithvi Shaw.

When asked about how the Mumbai team players congratulated him on the U19 win, Shaw cheekily noted that he had to spend some money on treating the team for a team dinner. “They congratulated me. We had a team dinner and I had to treat them. So obviously I had to shell out some money (laughs)! It was nice,” he said.

Prefers to open the innings

Noting down the details of the gameplan, Prithvi Shaw remarked that he prefers to open the innings. However, when seen on a larger scale, the person coming in after the openers often finds it easier to read the track, Shaw explained.  “When you open the batting, you have to read the pitch first up and try to understand the situation. But, at No. 3 you know what is happening out there. It makes things a little simple when it comes to reading the game,” he elaborated.

On his maiden IPL stint

Prithvi Shaw is all set to be a part of the Delhi Daredevils team in the IPL this year. He remarked that he is looking forward to the tournament which boasts of many international cricketers. He feels it will be great playing under Pravin Amre and Ricky Ponting.

“It’s going to be a good experience for one-two months. The team has a lot of international players, the coach himself (Ricky Ponting and Pravin Amre). So, it’s going to be fun.” When asked if he has some questions reserved for Ponting, Shaw noted, “(Smiles) I have not decided yet. The tournament starts only in April, so it’s a long time away,” Shaw conceded.
