Prithvi Shaw is currently playing for the Delhi Daredevils (DD) in the eleventh edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL). He has played four games thus far and has grabbed several eyeballs with his charismatic and unflinching style of play. Having piled 140 runs at an average of 35, the Maharashtra-born cricketer has more or less cemented his place in the playing eleven.
Shreyas Iyer’s team emerged victorious in last game against the Rajasthan Royals (RR) at the Feroz Shah Kotla in New Delhi. Shaw churned out a stupendous knock of 47 runs off 25 balls, which was garnished by four massive whacks into the stands. However, he missed out on his second half-century in the tournament after his maiden fifty against the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) at the same venue.
“It’s very similar to Sachin Tendulkar’s”- Mark Waugh
The Daredevils had previously been struggling with their top order and Shaw’s marvellous performances come as a massive boost for the franchise going into the business end of the league. Meanwhile, Mark Waugh, the former Australian cricketer, is highly impressed by Shaw’s technique, so much so that he drew a comparison with Sachin Tendulkar.
“The first thing you notice is his technique, it’s very similar to Sachin Tendulkar’s. His grip, his stance, he stays very still at the crease and plays all his shots around the wicket. He plays the ball quite late and is quite punchy in his stroke play and has an excellent base to play any shot from any bowler. He’s just so much like Sachin Tendulkar,” Mark Waugh was quoted as saying by the media.
Despite their victory last night against Ajinkya Rahane’s men, Delhi have quite a few hurdles to overcome before they can qualify for the playoffs. Iyer’s boys will next face the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad on Saturday.
