The Delhi & District Cricket Association (DDCA) and the civic authorities have been at loggerheads over the years. Recently, due to pending cases in the court, the RP Mehra Block of the old clubhouse, has been put on hold. The stand has a whopping capacity of approximately 2000 audience. Meanwhile, the uncertainty has been a major cause of concern for the official broadcasters.

The commentary box is best suited behind the stumps, which ensures smooth broadcasting of the games. As per reports in the Times of India (TOI), the Delhi Daredevils informed the broadcasters that the Hill B, which is located on one side of the old clubhouse, will be used as a make-shift commentary box. However, the box won’t be located behind the bowler’s arm, which will be a massive compromise.

The conundrum of the old clubhouse

Meanwhile, they will be talking to the franchise and the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) for churning out a solution to the issue and will be meeting on Thursday to take a call. As per sources, the DDCA will make a plea to the High Court for the reasons that not allowing to open the old clubhouse will lead to massive losses of revenue.

Time is also a constraint as the hearing on the issue will start from April 18 and the opening game at the Feroz Shah Kotla will be played on April 23 between the Delhi Daredevils and the Kings XI Punjab. Meanwhile, the probability of Delhi losing out on a few games also can’t be ruled out.

“Both DDCA, franchisee, and broadcaster are trying to find a middle path to ensure that the match happens at Kotla only. It’s just a matter of time when they come up with a contingency plan before the April 18 court case,” an official of the Delhi cricket board mentioned.
