Delhi Daredevils (DD) lost their game against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) by a massive margin of 71 runs at the Eden Gardens. Andre Russell proved to be their undoing as he smacked 41 runs off just 12 deliveries and Mohammed Shami was in the firing line. He went for as many as 5 sixes in his last couple of overs and was left distraught after his spell. However, the bowling coach of Daredevils Sridharan Sriram feels that Shami needs to come up with some sort of strategies in these situations.
Shami was expected to do well in this game as it was his home ground but after starting well in the first two overs, he lost his line and length completely and dished out length balls to Russell. In the end, he conceded as many as 53 runs in his four-over spell out of which 42 were given in the last two overs. As it turned out, the target went out o the reach for the visitors and they lost the game by a hefty margin affecting their net run-rate as well.
Sriram backs Shami
Sridharan Sriram, while speaking after the match, felt that Mohammed Shami needs to change his strategy when the batsmen are on a rampage. “Shami needs to come up with some sort of strategy. He started well; the first couple of catches were good. But then, there was a dropped catch. Had that worked [out], it would have been a different day for him,” he was quoted as saying by Sportstar.
However, he also believed that any bowler can have a bad day in cricket and backed him to come back soon. “That’s what sports is all about. Then, he got in the wrong side of Russell, and if that happens you need to think quickly. He just lost the plot quickly,” Sriram added in support of Shami.
