The Indian Premier League (IPL) 2018 is underway and every brand, platform and social media apps join the bandwagon to cater to this extensive audience. The usual Facebook, Twitter and Instagram have already been involved with fans and teams posting extensive details about their players, training as well as matches. The latest addition to this list is Snapchat.
The multimedia messaging app has joined hands with the IPL teams in an attempt to build a never before experience for fans. Snapchat on April 9 announced that four teams Virat Kohli-led Royal Challengers Bangalore, defending champions Mumbai Indians, returning franchise Rajasthan Royals and Gautam Gambhir’s Delhi Daredevils are on-board and will post Official Stories for IPL 2018.
To aid the same, Snapchat has added more tools that include custom stickers, filters and lenses. With the lenses, fans can transform into a player wearing the helmet and then there is the team anthem playing in the background. These tools are available based on the geolocation of the fans from those regions and can also be used by scanning a snapcode in the app.
This is the first time Snapchat has been involved with cricket in India and especially the IPL. They want to give the cricket fans an opportunity to root for their favourite teams during the tournament. It will also help them keep track of what the teams are up to not just on the field but off it as well.
Snapchat officials excited
To be able to find these posts created the official team profiles the users can check the Discover section of the app.
“We love finding new ways to make Snapchat a great place for fans,” Ben Schwerin, Snapchat’s vice president of partnerships was quoted as saying. “We are so excited for Snapchatters to be able to catch behind the scenes action by their favourite players, cheer their teams and share in the IPL 2018 frenzy with their friends and family!”
