The Indian Premier League (IPL) is all set to mark the beginning of its new decade on Saturday as MI and CSK renew the most famous rivalry. While the Mumbai Indians would be looking to start the season on a positive note, the most desperate team to win would be Chennai Super Kings who are making their return to the tournament after a gap of two years. However, it is the batting position of MS Dhoni which is always debated and Sunil Gavaskar is delighted that the former Indian captain has decided to bat up the order this season for CSK.

Dhoni’s hitting skills are on the wane currently and the veteran himself has admitted he needs some time in the middle before launching an assault on the bowlers. His reflexes have gone weak which is clearly visible in his recent knocks and whenever he has got more deliveries to bat, he has never disappointed in the limited overs format.

Sunil Gavaskar expressed his elation over Dhoni’s decision to bat up the order in the IPL in his latest column for Times of India. He believed that all the eyes will be on the two returning franchises and more so on CSK only because of Dhoni as he will be back at the helm for the franchise.

“All eyes will be on the two teams who return to the fold. Chennai Super Kings and Rajasthan Royals are back and have some incredible players in their ranks. Chennai Super Kings have been the powerhouse of the tournament with the charismatic MS Dhoni as their skipper. Whether he will be able to win his third IPL will depend a great deal on his bowling unit which now has the experienced and canny Harbhajan Singh among its ranks,” he wrote.

The cricketer-turned-commentator was also upbeat about the fact that Dhoni will be key to the fortunes of CSK in the tournament. “There is also Ravindra Jadeja who will be keen to show that he should be in the India limited overs teams. As always the key will be Dhoni himself and the news that he will bat higher up the order means that he gets more overs to cause mayhem and excite the crowds,” Gavaskar added.
