Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) have appointed Bhuvneshwar Kumar as the vice-captain for the upcoming the season of the Indian Premier League (IPL). He will assist Kane Williamson who was selected at the helm by the franchise earlier in the day. They were forced to change the personnel for the respective positions after David Warner had stepped down from captaincy and was ruled out of the T20 extravaganza following his involvement in the infamous ball-tampering scandal.

Warner was earlier tipped to captain SRH and he was also retained by the franchise following his exploits in the last couple of seasons. They had won the coveted title under his inspired leadership in 2016 by defeating Royal Challengers Bangalore in the finals famously. Unfortunately, he won’t be playing IPL this year following Cricket Australia’s decision to ban him along with Steve Smith and Cameron Bancroft.

Bhuvi – The right choice

The official Twitter handle of Sunrisers Hyderabad confirmed the news as their CEO K Shanmugam welcomed Bhuvneshwar Kumar at the position and was delighted to announce the same. “We are happy to announce that Bhuvneshwar Kumar will be the vice-captain of SunRisers Hyderabad for IPL 2018,” he said in a statement released by the franchise. Bhuvi will also be thrilled to perform in the role now after he was at the top of the charts as the highest wicket-taker in the last two IPL seasons.

Bhuvi has become one of the most sought after cricketers in India following his superb performances in all the formats of the game including the Indian T20 extravaganza. He was retained as the second player by the franchise along with Warner in the player retention event earlier this year. His variations while bowling in the death overs have been impeccable which has made his the most valuable player in both IPL and the Indian team. It will be interesting to see the way he fares in this season of the T20 tournament.
