After a loss against KKR at Eden Gardens on Thursday, Chennai Super Kings came back strong against the Royal Challengers Bangalore on Saturday. In the 4 pm match in Pune, CSK displayed a complete, all-round performance and reaped its benefits with the 6 wicket win over Virat Kohli’s team.

After winning the toss and electing to field, CSK announced their two new debutantes, David Willey and Dhruv Shorey. Shardul Thakur found his place back in the squad as well. It did not start well for RCB, losing opener Brendon McCullum in the 2nd over of Ngidi. But they recovered for a while, and thanks to Parthiv Patel (53 off 41), the occasional boundaries were coming. But wickets kept falling on the other end, owing to the dual-pronged spin attack of Jadeja and Harbhajan.

A lot was being said about Jadeja’s role and necessity in the team, but taking 3 wickets today, including captain Kohli’s, he answered all their questions. After RCB was bundled only for 127, the match became mostly one-sided. Rayadu and Raina created the initial foundation, and MS Dhoni did the rest of the work like he has been doing in most of the previous matches.

CSK proved once again that one bad day at the office does not make a difference for them. The squad looked as formidable as ever, in batting, bowling and fielding, and reclaimed the top spot in the league table.

Raina lauds team’s performance

After the win, Suresh Raina took to Twitter to post a congratulatory message for the whole team and lauded the efforts the boys have shown. His tweet read, “Brilliant beginning, Impactful Interval and a fearless finish!! A total team effort to win against @RCBTweets this evening in Pune. Keep the whistles blowing!!”
