The Indian Premier League has always been a tournament that has promoted the young talents in the country. The tournament motto has been ‘where talent meets opportunity’ ever since the first edition of the tournament. Every year, new faces take the limelight and become overnight superstars. This season, the young guns like Mayank Markande, Sanju Samson, and Washington Sundar have already made steady starts to make it big.

Among the lot making big gains in the popularity quotient, the one who tops the list is the Mumbai Indians new found superstar, Mayank Markande. The leggie from Punjab has been the biggest find of the season thus far. He bowls with immaculate precision. In fact, even the likes of MS Dhoni and Virat Kohli found it tough to negotiate with his variations in the tournament.

Markande made a fantastic start to his IPL career where he returned with figures of 3/23 against the Chennai Super Kings in the season opener. The three-wicket haul included the big fish MS Dhoni. In the match that followed, he scalped 4/23 against the Sunrisers Hyderabad, including another big wicket of Shikhar Dhawan. The youngster has a lot of talent and he is reaping rewards for the same.

The rewards are not limited to on-field ones. His Instagram profile has seen a sudden surge of 300 per cent raise in his followers. Prior to the tournament, he has about 2000 followers. Now, he has 60.6K followers. Who thought only the winking ladies could be overnight sensations on the social media!

Becoming a leggie

In a recent interview with IPLT20.com, Mayank Markande had revealed that he wanted to bowl fast deliveries as a young kid. But his physoque did not allow him to do so. Also, the fact that even the best in the business failed to pick his googly prompted him to take up leg spin.

“When I used to bowl at the nets to Reetinder Singh Sodhi, he would often find it difficult to pick me. I also didn’t have the body to bowl fast so I turned to leg-spin. It was then when Jiwanjot Singh’s father kept a keen eye on me that I turned full time to bowling leg-spin,” he quoted.

I decide my vibe. ✌?✌?
