Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) were encountered with a major challenge ahead of the eleventh season of the Indian Premier League (IPL). They didn’t have a full-fledged skipper, which raised many eyebrows. The likes of Robin Uthappa, Chris Lynn and Dinesh Karthik were the contenders to captain the team. Eventually, the management handed over the mantle to Karthik.
The Tamil Nadu cricketer would be expected to fill the shoes of the enigmatic Gautam Gambhir, who took the franchise to greater heights in the previous seven seasons. Meanwhile, R Vinay Kumar, Karthik’s current teammate in the Knight Riders, hailed the leadership skills of the Indian wicket-keeper batsman in a recent interaction with the media.
“He’s really a good guy”- Vinay Kumar
“He did not lead many matches for Tamil Nadu does not mean he’s not a good leader. He’s a very good leader, hopefully, he will do well. We have many seniors, have to help each other. He’s really a good guy. I’ve played most of my cricket with him or against him. The way he played for India in the final was amazing,” Vinay Kumar said.
The players from the Indian Under-19 team impressed one and all with their fearless approach on the cricket pitch. The Knights Riders’ management was impressed by the players and subsequently picked Shubman Gill, Kamlesh Nagarkoti and Shivam Mavi for the upcoming season. Meanwhile, Vinay Kumar talked about sharing his experience in order for them to develop as their career progresses.
“They have not played any IPL matches does not mean they are not good. Everybody has to perform well. Youngsters will bring in more energy on the field. They are good enough, that’s where they are here. It’s very important to share your knowledge with them. Whatever I’ve learned I want to make sure that these guys are benefited, and in a right frame of mind to deliver” the Karnataka pacer added.
