South African star batsman AB de Villiers is the most popular cricketer in the world, who is known to play his natural unorthodox shots at will in all the three formats of the game. When he is at the crease in full flow, even the best bowlers in the business are under immense pressure. The Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) have had a dismal run so far in the eleventh edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL), as they are currently placed in the bottom half of the points tally and their chances of qualifying for the playoffs are looking very bleak.

DD youngsters steer to the limelight

In the last night’s IPL clash, the RCB skipper Virat Kohli was up against the Delhi Daredevils (DD) at his home ground, the Feroz Shah Kotla stadium. The hosts’ explosive wicket-keeper batsman Rishabh Pant who scored a remarkable hundred in the last game, played yet another outstanding knock of 61 runs off 34 balls to accelerate the run-scoring for his team. After his dismissal, young IPL debutant Abhishek Sharma along with Vijay Shankar stitched an important 61-run partnership which helped DD finish with a decent total of 181 runs on the board.

RCB also lost both their openers very early in the game, when the duo of Kohli and ABD entered the crease to settle down the crucial run-chase. Kohli played a splendid knock of 70 runs from just 40 balls, which also settled down the nerves in the RCB dugout.

On the other end, de Villiers was also playing a spectacular innings and was hitting the ball out of the park nicely. During 19th over of the chase, ABD smacked Trent Boult for a six over the backward square leg region by shuffling around his crease. The RCB skipper was also surprised to witness the belligerent hit while sitting in the dugout area. However, the former Proteas skipper rather offered a gentle reaction on his face after playing the unorthodox shot which he normally does.

De Villiers played a power-packed unbeaten inning in which he scored 72 runs off just 37 balls that included six sixes and 4 fours which helped his team register a 5-wicket victory. With that crucial win, RCB have now kept their slender hopes of qualifying for the playoffs very much alive.
